What's new

India to buy American military equipment lying in Afghanistan?

At that time, the Mig 29 was among the very best 4th gen fighters in the world and the Mirage 2000 the best multi role fighter... so no effect for ground troops ?! Seriously :cheesy:

What about the Mig 21s and Mig 27s? They were revolutionary and innovative design concepts at the time when they were inducted.

And the Nato had nothing similar to the T 72 when it first rolled out.

Pathetic attempt to rant and bash .... again.... try harder, or try to prove that I am wrong with these points.
We only had limited access to tech at that time because of our pre 1991 economy and because our own defence industry was in its foot steps due to various failures.

The only peron ranting is you. Mig 21 is what you stated. You brought up a plane that was inducted in the 50's. Very credible.....I expect such posts from you. NATo had a similar tank when it first rolled out? Now think about that statement? Now, you whine about the lack of money and our economy. Ok sure. Look at our sad preparation dring Kargil?

Now, you think INdia is swimming in $$$ while India has debt pressures. Wake up. If you can save a few bucks here and there, it will always be in India's benefit. We still have issues with money due to our bureaucracy which is f-king up our growth. India performing at this level of economic growth is not surprising but expected with its size and decades of socialism. With the incompetent bureaucracy in our govt, unless we change in many core areas, India will slow down to a snail's pace. Don;t kid yourself. So, when you save a few billion here and there, how about investing in our ppl and industries for the future?

Yes.... I am ranting. lol.

Every AF had a significant bulk of 3rd gen fighters in the 80s. And the highly upgraded Mig 21s made by HAL was one of the best 3rd gen fighters around. So its production was more than significant.

Again, you failed.

When did I said that the NATO had a similar tank o_O ?!

The only person who failed is you. The Nato tank issue is incorrect on my part. But who care was India ever going to fight NATO? Our tanks cant fight at night while Nato could since the 80's.

What is your stupid point? Read my posts and respond. You bring up some BS to make an imginary point that maes no sense to what we are talking about.

Ok, agreed, but how will it help if India hampers its defence?

And again, dont you know that each ministry gets its specific budget to do its job!?! Each one has an important duty and national defence is one of them. And you think that the armed forces have too much ? Again, we are just spending less than 2% on defence, which is pretty low considering the size of our military and the region we live in.

And what about industries, infra etc????

Do you know that India spends more on anti poverty measures than any other nation ? If money was the problem, there would not be poverty in this country.... much of the money goes missing due to the usual causes like corruption etc etc etc...

And India also got one of the largest infrastructure programs on the planet.... ever heard of that?

Seriously, do you know how things work here?

WOW...... dont you understand that the NATO remark was there to point out that the NATO, which was the main opponent of the SU had no similar tank to the T 72, thus making it the best tank at its time ?! --- Therefore India acquired one of the best tanks when it bought the T 72. Again, I proved that your claim that "the major defence deals took place in this decade" was w

Our tanks cant fight at night? These issues apply only for the non upgraded vehicles like older T 72 and T 55 versions.... T 90s, Arjuns and T 72 M1s have latest on board equipment.

And the older models which arent upgraded yet are still waiting due to budgetary reasons.... and you think that the military can simply give a "few" billions to other ministries?

Hey genius, who was the one who wrote this sentence?

"What was India doing for the past 30 yrs before this decade regarding defence? Do you really know the inside scoop as to how our defence just picked up all of sudden this decade and why we have pushed for stronger ties with the US?"

So with my points, you cannot say that important defence acquisitions started in this decade.

Hey genius did you disregard all my posts. Selective memory I see. You point out big ticket items that very little effect for the porblems India is facing. What good is a ship right now? What good is fighter plane without adequate missiles? What about our guns and supplies?

See again you are ignoring my points... YOU were the one who said that India did not do anything crucial in the defence area before this decade.... and I ve proven you wrong, I ve proven you wrong that the Mig 21s and Mig 27s were, as you pointed out, crap .. .and yet you find other things to cry about .... simply pathetic.

1.) We have the strongest Navy in the region (except the USN of course), our trade routes are safe

2.) Our fighters have the best missiles (latest R 77s, R 73s, R 27s, MICAS, DERBYs etc etc etc) No clues what you are talking about... Seems like all your knowledge is based on the desi "defence" journalist army

3.) What about guns? INSAS was introduced in the last decade, another proof that your claim was wrong....
Supplies? We have managed to produce almost every type of equipment at home by now...

3.)

I am not referring to Navy, It plays no part in counter insurgencies which we face plenty of. The missiles are mostly post 2000 after Kargil. Before that we faced critical shortages.
Insas is a pos. Get your facts straight. Our armed forced hate it but are left with no choice.

1.) Navy plays an important role for a country which is surrounded by the ocean from 3 sides, it protects our trade, our fishingwaters, it hunts pirates etc etc etc...

2.) In Kargil, the IAF was already using BVR missiles, the PAF was not. Mig 29s could lock on F16s several times.

3.) The INSAS is a proven standard AR and has been successfully used in the desert, in the jungles and even on the highest battlefield in the world.

"Our armed forced hate it but are left with no choice." ----- Prove it.

1. Navy plays no role in the jungles. Case closed.

2. Kargil our biggest issue was missiles and bombs for the bunkers on the mountains. We had no issue with PAK airforce. Case closed.

3.INSAS is crap ....don;t delude yourself. Prove it? Read the tread on PDF lol

The jew can write all she wants.....best of luck convincing Chuck Hagel:usflag:

We really don't have a habit of using second hand equipments. Though some notable examples of second hand stuff in Indian service,
1. INS Viraat
2.INS Jalashwa
3. Mi-35 'hind' akbar

does anyone have info of Second hand stuff in service witg IA?
IMO,we should buy them if given for free, else na na

of course India does not, your future main battle ship is made in china and assembled in russia

1.) As if our threats only come from jungles....

2.) Yeah, we had initial problems with LGBs but we solved those problems... And yes, we really did not have issues with the PAK

3.) What thread? Am I supposed to search the entire website for it? Provide the link, I am not the one making the claims...
And again, it might not be the best rifle, but it has served well for more than 15 years and is in service with millions of soldiers, para military personal, central and state police forces in ALL kinds of terrains and surroundings.

I think that speaks for itself.

You mean the way we convinced them to sell us P-8Is and Apaches without signing the CISMOA..oh they demurred and shied away till we finally wooed them. A couple of infantry weapons and troop carriers is peanuts compared to those.:smokin:
