DARPA-finally-manages-to-recover-air-launched-UAV-in-fourth-Gremlins-test1.jpg

India’s Indian Air Force, and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) along with US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) are close to agreeing on technical parameters of the Air Launched Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (ALUAV) program that can be launched and recovered from Transport aircraft like C-130J Medium Transport Aircraft.

Both countries will hold Joint IP Rights so that further development of the ALUAV is not hindered in any way as each country can develop future alterations of the same without needing each other’s permission.

Air-Launched Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (ALUAV) program will be the first of the joint defence venture between both countries as talks are under process to identify and work on more common defence projects that both countries are keen on.

  • Significance: It was a significant step towards deepening defence technology collaborationbetween the two nations through co-development of defence equipment.
    • It could in the future lead to joint manufacture of artificial intelligence-enabled drone swarms capable of being launched from aircraft to overwhelm an adversary’s air defence systems.
  • Aim:To strengthen the US and India’s defence industrial base by moving away from the traditional “buyer-seller” dynamic toward a more collaborative approach.
    • This would be through exploring new areas of technological collaboration through co-development and co-production.
  • Projects: The projects under DTTI have been identified as the near, medium and long term projects.
    • The near-term projects included so far are Air-launched Small Unmanned Systems (drone swarms), LightWeight Small Arms Technology and Intelligence-Surveillance-Targeting & Reconnaissance (ISTAR) systems.
    • The medium-term projects identified are Maritime Domain Awareness Solution and Virtual Augmented Mixed Reality for Aircraft Maintenance or VAMRAM.
    • The two long term projects are Terrain Shaping Obstacle (lethal munitions) and anti-drone technology called Counter-UAS, Rocket, Artillery & Mortar (CURAM) system for the Indian Army.
  • Joint Working Group: Under the DTTI, Joint Working Groups on land, naval, air, and aircraft carrier technologies have been established for focus on mutually agreed projects in respective domains.

Interesting, looks like US is aiming or atleast trying to replace Russia as our primary defence partner. They recently announced about a partnership with General Atomics and now this, plus i think some US companies have set up manufacturing in India (they manufacture parts for Apache too here imo).
Meanwhile the Russian AK203 program just started and we're likely co-operating in other fields simultaneously including Brahmos NG. Interesting ongoing geopolitics for India.
Also in 2021-2022 we made out first domestic military sales of Brahmos and other stuff to Phillipines, Armenia and there are other interested buyers (lot of potential buyers in this area who need anti China deterance)

Among EU we have good relations and defence partnership with France (submarines, jets)
Afaik we codevelop stuff with Israel too.

US doesn't have the engineering talent or manufacturing capacity to counter at the scale of China. India will be a key ally.

India is moving away from ToT to collaborative co-development and joint ownership with partners.

One of the benefits of being truly neutral, everyone wants to work with India and they know India won't backstab them in the long term.

Yep America needs us as much as we need them.
Co-development is the way to go (with local R and D done side by side) and maybe further down the line we can have full or partial TOT.
America is likely to give us full TOT for Stryker APCs to be made in India.
And true the fact that India is not openly antagonistic to any nation (barring Pakistan), i won't count China as it's an hot and sweet relationship or something like that (as we still do trade a lot), neutrality and non alignment has got us a lot of favors and goodwill on the worldstage.

Yes USA is trying all possibilities, to get India out of Russian orbit defense wise.
I just hope there is something on Jet Engines, and Kaveri can get some help to mature on the way.

It's time we take the help being offered, no one can deny that Western Tech is very advanced.

Am expecting more of these, post Doval's meeting in US on critical tech sharing. A follow on to Rajnath Singh's meeting I guess, where he mentioned US is going to offer some critical tech.

We just need to make sure, there are lesser strings attached. Keep eyes and ears open so to speak.
