Japan to export nuclear technologies to India, Vietnam

Japan is taking steps to resume its export of nuclear technology to India and Vietnam, eight months after the Fukushima incident which triggered a yet unresolved nuclear crisis across the country.

The two foreign ministers of Japan and India met on Saturday and decided to continue talks to establish a civilian nuclear power agreement. The discussions had been interrupted after the March disasters which hit Japan.

On the other hand, Japan’s prime minister may discuss nuclear power cooperation with his Vietnamese counterpart at a meeting on Monday, according to government officials.

Concerns about nuclear safety have led to many reactors being shut down in Japan. People had to cope with electricity shortages and reduce their consumption, especially during the summer. It is no wonder that resumed talks to India in a moment like this is likely to draw criticism, analysts say.

India is not a member of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, which militates for peaceful uses of nuclear energy aims. The Japanese foreign minister said that his country has learned its lessons and is willing to help India adjust its policies to achieve a safe and efficient use of nuclear energy.

"In a transparent manner, we will provide (India) with information on the cause and the research outcome of the Fukushima Daiichi accident, as well as on our efforts at ensuring safety," Japanese foreign minister Koichiro Gemba said said over the weekend.

Only those who learn from mistakes rather than not trying again are the ones who succeed.

It is great to see that India and Vietnam have not lost faith in nuclear technology (especially Japanese nuclear tech) despite the Fukushima incident. India can implement Japanese lessons from the Fukushima episode and make domestic reactors more safe.

Nuclear power is key to India's energy security. Until the time India develops thorium based breeder reactors, it will have to collaborate with the countries like US, Russia, France and Japan to develop uranium based nuclear plants.

What are you talking about? Our nuclear reactor withstood a full blown tsunami in Kalpakkam, all while Japanese reactors collapsed like popcorn machines. Japanese technology is good in operations but in endurance we are already ahead.

Right... let me put things in perspective here --

Distance from epicenter of Earthquake (2004 tsunami vs 2011 tsunami)

Kalpakkam -- 1,200 miles
Fukushima - 380 miles

Anyways, no intelligent man on Earth refuses to learn from the mistakes of others.

Nuclear enegies are needed for every countries who are needs for country modernization and economics grows. Thanks Japan for the help to Indian, Vietnam.

Hopefully once our own Thorium reactors come, we will be able to speed up Indian development as well as assist Vietnam in developing their energy needs. We badly need nuclear energy.

That's right buddy, more than ever we realy need enegy sources to devoloping and make countries economies boosts up. Viet Nam needs more times to R&D for itself.

That's right, focus in the positive directions and full speed ahead.

Vietnam in future is depend on nuke power to secure energy to country. Vietnam has enough uranium resource but lack in developing of technology to power plants concerned. Vietnam and India shall work together for interests of both. Thank for your comments.
