Indian Air Force Considers TU-160 To Counter Chinese Bomber H-6

Err no. Bombers can only be used when air force has air superiority over a region or has to travel long to make a bombing. There is no requirement for a bomber from IAF. So how's this news?

This news is most likely fake. India has to fill up her falling squadron numbers first.
Bombers can also be armed with long range cruise missiles. But thats viable when your enemy is away from you such as US, Russia and China. In case of Pakistan, India and China all three share borders with each other and can be targeted easily with launchers based on land and investing in bombers will be considered waste of money.

That's why I said it's a fake news. Infact IAF nor the MoD is even evaluating such a proposal nor they have requirements as of now.
We are not an expeditionary force. Su30mki are bomb trucks themselves if needed be and can carry cruise missiles. So bombers aren't required.

Why India need ALCM enabled Strategic bomber? Does it need to bomb strategic targets in USA, Canada or Svalbard? o_O

The Indian Air Force needs a strategic bomber such as the Russian TU-160 to counter a growing fleet of Chinese bombers. The Russian supersonic bomber Tu-160, also known as the White Swan, is the most powerful and largest missile carrier in the world.

The Tupolev TU-160 White Swan is a supersonic, variable-sweep wing heavy strategic bomber designed by the Tupolev Design Bureau in the Soviet Union in the 1970s. It is the largest and heaviest Mach 2+ supersonic military aircraft ever built and second only to the XB-70 Valkyrie in overall length. It is the largest and heaviest combat aircraft, the fastest bomber now in use and the largest and heaviest variable-sweep wing airplane ever flown.

Entering service in 1987, the TU-160 was the last strategic bomber designed for the Soviet Union. As of 2016, at least 16 aircraft are in service in the long-range aviation arm of the Russian Air Force. [4] Since the early 2000s, the Tu-180 is being upgraded to active fleet electronics systems. The Tu-160M modernization program has begun with the first updated aircraft delivered in December 2014.

The Tu-160 is a variable-geometry wing aircraft. The aircraft employs a fly-by-wire control system with a mixed wing profile, and full-span slats are used on the major sides, with double-slated flaps on the rear edges and cruciform tails. The T-160 has a crew of four (Pilot, Co-Pilot, Bombardier, and Defensive System Operator) in K-36LM ejection seats.

The TU-60 is powered by four Kuznetsov NK-32 powered turbofan engines, the most powerful for a fighter aircraft. Unlike the American B-1B Lancer, which reduced the original Mach 2+ requirement for the B-1A to achieve shorter radar cross-sections, the TU-160 retains variable intake ramps and is capable of reaching Mach 2.05 speed at altitude. The TU-160 is equipped with a probe-and-drogue in-flight refueling system for extended-range missions,

Could you please stop spamming this forum with such stupid and most ridiculous threads? :hitwall::crazy:

India getting Tu-160 strategic bombers is as plain naive as claims, the German Luftwaffe would get F-22 Raptors.
Such threads would best fit into a Kindergarten section or to the Key Forum with its countless fan-boys.

russia is incapable to mass produce such bombers for exporting to india, already they have very few unlike u.s who have more than 700 b52 bombers,on the other hand india will not properly maintain this aircraft and lose them in crashes, crash of such big aircraft is unsustainable for any country as they are very much expensive

USAF has 160 bombers
Which includes 74 B-52s ,66 B1B and 20 B2
They had 700 bombers at one time
But that was at the height of Cold war in 1980s

Anyway
It's a stupid Idea to buy 6 units of such an high cost aircraft which will be expensive to maintain
If IAF has spare 3 billion USD
It's better to spend that on Mid air refuellers and additional Phalcon AWACs Or even additional 18 Rafales
These will come in far more handy than just 6 Tu160
And if General Rawat wants a platform for carrying long range A2G missiles , why not look at the P8I.
This aircraft has a 6000NM range and has 6 hardpoints for Harpoon missiles
The Navy has 18 of these on order .
If Modi can convince Trump to allow Brahmos and Nirbhay integration with this platform,
Then it will solve the requirements for Tu160
