The CNN reported on Wednesday a serious incident involving an Y-12 Iranian surveillance aircraft, which reportedly approached a US MH-60R combat helicopter in the international airspace over the Persian Gulf several days ago.

The distance between the two planes was no more than 450 of meters, according to the CNN.

US officials expressed their concern about the incident, which possibly reflects Iranian top officials; lack of full control of junior military personnel.

"We think this might have been locally ordered," a US military official told CNN.

The incident occurred as negotiations are ongoing regarding Iran's nuclear program, at the same time as the conflict in Yemen between Houthis and the Saudi-led military coalition escalates.

Yep.

TEHRAN (FNA)- An Iranian military observation aircraft flew within 50 yards of an armed US Navy helicopter over the Persian Gulf this month, the US media said.

An MH-60R Sea Hawk helicopter approached the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson in November 2014, CNN claimed in a Tuesday report.

The incident, which has not been publicly disclosed, troubled US military officials, said the report.

The Navy MH-60R armed helicopter was flying from the deck of the USS Carl Vinson on a routine patrol in international airspace, a US official said.

The Navy helicopter was in radio contact with the ship during the encounter, but there was no contact between the two aircraft and no shots were fired.

Playing a game of 'chicken' with real military hardware .... possibly not such a good idea.
