He is right about Japan. In Malaysia, middle income people can afford a house, car and children. In Singapore and Hong Kong, pick one. Sure your GDP per capita is high, but you can't afford to have a family. My neighbor is trying to get citizenship for his wife and daughter to live in Malaysia instead of Singapore.

Yup its true but to get a real picture of the phenomenon you should see reports on other countries too. In most developed countries its the same case albeit to a lesser degree (but in those countries migrants make up by producing far more children thus keeping the stats afloat).
