JF-17 Thunder Block-II Brochure.

Curious that the article states that the current Klimov-93 engine powering the Thunder is rated at 79kN max dry thrust and 98kN max aft. burning thrust. That is a TWR of 1.098 at normal load of 9100kg.

Are these figures correct?

yes these are correct. it was revealed some time back that thrust is 98.2Ktn.

Why payload is 3600Kg i thought it was increased after restrengthening the Wings ?

most of the info is correct, rest need some help.

there is confusion of external weapon load capacity that was increased to b/w 4000- 4600 KG, the later number is widely believed and accepted/ verified

RD-93 numbers are for MA version current version is rd-93b with 86KN with AB, rest of the info is correct

Article also confirms that the 4th Squadron was indeed re-equipped with the Bock IIs. As it mentions that the 12th bock II is nearing completion.

Even MA does not have 98 KN thrust, it's more like 91.2 KN (9300 KgF). Don't know where they came up with 98 KN, probably, from the old and misleading poster from zhuhai 2006.

Thanks for a very informative post. The thunder program seems to be doing well.

to the best of my knowledge rd-93MA is 98KN with AB

The Klimov poster at Zhuhai 2010 airshow gave the thrust range of the engine to be 79 kN Dry to 98 kN Wet.This was designed specifically for FC-1 with increased thrust and relocated gearbox compared to base RD-33's. Although the increase of thrust decreased the service life of RD-93 to 2200 hours from RD-33's 4000 hours.

Hi,

Technically this is correct----. The technical reason behind it-----you get more output---you shorten the life----.

i think the payload would be 4400 kg approximately as on wingtips sd 10 can fitted which has mass of 200 kg
while if they strengthen the wing it would be 500 kg each on the 2 side hard-point while middle 3 can carry 1000 kg payload each
while altogether make this 4400 kg
so this means that jft carry similar payload as mig 29 upg
