Latest Development in Afghanistan

Shaheen Tweeted that the Taliban-led Afghanistan will strive to "become on par with" other countries in the field of security, economy, education and development.

"After [the] restoration of independence and establishment of Islamic government, our priority is to serve people and resolve their economic problems. This country will compete to [be] on par with others in the field of security, economy, education and development, Insha Allah," Shaheen wrote.
Afghanistan is going to outdo Pakistan in growth rate, because it actually has a loyal government that wants to genuinely see it develop.

Their institutions for economy and intelligence are actually trying to do their job, unlike ours.

If you extrapolate from the present, unlikely in 2023, but possible in 2024.
Just wait and you'll see, their growth rate will exceed Pakistan's in the consecutively years to come, due to competence and focusing on all domains meticulously

These are dedicated, honest and loyal people. They are working hard for their country.

How many Afghans have arrived in the UK?

The government says that more than 24,000 people have arrived in the UK from Afghanistan as of December 2022, including British nationals.

Of these, more than 21,000 have been resettled under Afghan refugee schemes.

Most came as part of Operation Pitting, the British military operation starting in August 2021 to evacuate British nationals and Afghans from Kabul.

About 2,000 came before Operation Pitting
15,000 arrived during Operation Pitting
7,000 have arrived since

In written evidence to the Foreign Affairs Committee, Raphael Marshall, who previously worked on the Foreign Office's Afghanistan crisis response, estimated that between 75,000 and 150,000 people had applied for evacuation in August 2021.

He estimated that 5% of these received assistance.

The Home Office said another 1,400 former staff and their families had already been relocated since 2013 under an earlier scheme.

How many people did other countries evacuate?

The US evacuated the largest number of people from Afghanistan after the Taliban seized power.

From 14 August to 28 August 2021, it got 113,500 people out.
Other countries evacuated much smaller numbers over that period, according to official statements and press releases:
  • Germany - more than 5,300
  • Italy - more than 5,000
  • Canada - more than 3,700
  • France - around 3,000
Since August 2021, some countries have continued to carry out occasional evacuations. On December 3 of that year, France announced that it had evacuated 258 people from Afghanistan.
There was also an increase in the number of Afghans who applied for asylum in some EU countries such as Greece, France and Germany.

Afghan govt rejects Russia’s claims

The Frontier Post

Untitled-101.jpg

KABUL (Agencies): The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) on Sunday rejected claims made Friday by the Russian defense minister that armed groups from Afghanistan pose a threat to the security of Central Asia.

According to a statement, the IEA said there was no truth in Sergei Shoigu’s comments made during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s meeting of defense ministers on Friday.

“The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan not only maintains security and stability in Afghanistan after years of war, but also considers security and stability in the region as a helper with its economy-oriented foreign policy and does not want security threats to exist in any way,” the IEA’s statement read.

The statement added that Russia’s authorities should be aware that, in the last two years, not only has Afghanistan not threatened the security of any country in the region or the world, but “the security forces of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan have been able to fully and resolutely dispose of the remnants of the terrorist group of Daesh in Afghanistan.”

“The Islamic Emirate, as a responsible government, does not allow anyone to use the territory of Afghanistan against other countries and expects other countries, especially regional countries to stop their citizens who try to go to Afghanistan for destructive events,” the statement read.

The IEA claimed that some recent attacks were in fact carried out by foreign nationals from regional countries.

“Unfortunately, we have to say that some of the recent incidents of insecurity in Afghanistan have been committed by the citizens of some countries in the region,” the statement said.

The statement comes after Shoigu said at the meeting in New Delhi that the existence of some terrorist groups in Afghanistan are the main threat to neighboring countries, especially Central Asia.

Speaking at the meeting, Shoigu noted that the topic of Afghanistan must be kept on the SCO’s agenda.

“At the same time, numerous radical extremist groups entrenched in the territory of Afghanistan pose the main threat, promoting their ideas and efforts in neighboring republics. To our mind, the topic of Afghanistan must be kept on the agenda of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Only comprehensive international and regional assistance can facilitate measures to overcome challenges Afghanistan faces alone,” Shoigu said.

India, which hosted the meeting, asked the members of the SCO to jointly fight against terrorism in the region.

At the end of the meeting, the SCO’s member nations signed a resolution reaffirming their common commitment to promoting regional security, peace, and prosperity.

SCO Defense Ministers’ Meeting was held in New Delhi and was attended by defense ministers of China, Russia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan and a number of observer members.

Six killed, 100 homes destroyed in Afghan flood: official

AFP
Published May 24, 2023

HEART: Six people have been killed and dozens of homes washed away in flooding in central Afghanistan, local authorities said Wednesday.

Abdul Wahid Hamas, a spokesman for the Taliban governor in central Ghor province, said three women and a child were killed when their house in the town of Firozkoh was washed away on Tuesday.

In Pasaband district, in the same province, a man and a woman were also swept away and later found dead, while a further person remains missing, Hamas said.

More than 100 houses and about 200 hectares (500 acres) of agricultural land were destroyed, with canals used to irrigate the fields damaged, he said.

“We don’t have more details of the financial losses for now,” Hamas told AFP.

Afghanistan is gripped by one of the world’s worst humanitarian disasters according to aid agencies, and research describes the nation as highly vulnerable to the effects of extreme weather caused by climate change.

Nine out of ten Afghan families cannot afford enough food, the World Food Programme said in March.

Ghor province has also been the epicentre of a prolonged drought in recent years.

We Pakistanis have every right to purchase that real estate called Afghanistan.

Its good to see Afghan Taliban are now ruling their country - Afghanistan.

Allah has given them a second chance. Don't screw up this time, Afghan Taliban.

And then Chinese people said in Saudi Arabia "Shut up, at least we are anti-crusade."
