Majority of Pakistanis for 'Islamisation' of society: Poll

I have some questions T-Faz.
What do you think is the reason for people being radicalized now? Is it the education system? With the books being given to children having inflammatory material and emphasizing being Muslim is more important than being a Pakistani?

The reason for radicalization is due to the ideological shift that occurred in Pakistan from mid 70's and onwards. Bhutto in order to gain support of the Arab nations and the religious right of this country went ahead with changing the ideology of the nation. Prior to this period, Pakistani's were simply Pakistani's and religion was restricted to Mosques, Churches, Temples and Synagogues. Gen. Ayub Khan made it compulsory that the sermons remain apolitical and all the major religious parties were banned during his tenure.

As soon as Bhutto started his tenure, he formalized relationship with the Arabs. These Arabs had always supported the religious elements, this meant that they were now able to exert their influence over the population and with their funding from the Gulf, they were successful in penetrating the psyche of the population through religion. Once these forces devoured Bhutto, we got Gen. Zia who worked closely with the far right and together they shifted the ideology of Pakistan from the people of the Indus to an extension of the Arab world in the Subcontinent.

Our curriculum, our media and other channels of public engagement emphasize our Muslamaniat as our core identity to this day and this has allowed for extremism to flourish because this Musalmaniat was never defined or restricted to remain peaceful.

Secondly, how to secularize the population of Pak? Is the best way again to write the books in a more secular, balanced way? And what is actually being done on the ground?

You cannot secularize the population of Pakistan as of now, perhaps a slow and measured change in ideology can be initiated. Though that cannot and will not happen until we break away from the Gulf states and develop our own foreign policy that caters to the interests of Pakistan and not Islam.

Nothing is being done and nothing will be done because the people are content with the current situation, they do not mind if a few people die on a daily basis, they do not care about the minorities, they do not care about anything as they have become indifferent.

Make the people aware of what is happening and what they could have if things are done right and then you will see a shift in ideology.

While what you have said is 100% factually correct, I would argue that the first seeds of "Islamization" were sowed in the 1956 Constitution when Pakistan was constitutionally declared the "Islamic Republic of Pakistan". Z.A.Bhutto took it a step further in the 1973 constitution when Ahmedis were declared non-Muslims as per the constitution. And we all know what happened in Zia-ul-Haq's time. My two cents.

Sure thing.. I am Proud to be Muslim and that is my First Identity as a Human being.

Why does it burns Indians? Pakistan WAS created in the name of TWO NATION theory and if you consider Sindh, Punjab, Baluchistan, Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtoonkhua, you wouldn't find a second thread which weaves them all other than ISLAM. You guys are sooooo darn confused about partition and 2 Nations Theory.

Muslim first then pakistani then nothing !!

Oooh really, plz dont bring india into it.
It will derail the thread to Achooot, Berhamen etc.

Unfortunately, This is what your thinking is. It's totally wrong thinking.

I don't give so much of importance to religion. I am Indian only and care about country progressing northward. Religion has hardly any role in nation.

Religions/Casts are personal choice only. It matters in Culture, Custom and Worship. I visited many countries and all i replied that i am Indian and no one ask about religion. Even in India, 75% of forms doesn't have option of Religion. I am sure, other countries are also same.

Pakistan was formed by the name of Islam. Today 97% people of Pakistan are Muslim and it will be always Muslim dominated country.

Making Religion as Most important priority always destroys the Country and promotes Anti-Modernisation wave. See, What happened with Hitler and Afghanistan. Also, See U.A.E. - It is Islamic country but see what are priorities. See Japan or any western countries.

I personally never seen any Christian saying I am proud of Christianity and giving more emphasis on that. It's only Country. You ask any Italian or French or German or English. Ask what is common ? Most of them will say We all are Developed nation or Belongs to same continent Europe, etc. Very few will say We are all Christian. Same is not true for Asia. Hence, the Result.

Just My Personal View.

Thanks for trolling.. so you also add that Saiyyad, Malik, Julaha, Shia, Sunni etc.. Now go back and reply properly..

agreed with you but dont add Bhutto era,the radicalization of our society started in 1979(afghan war) by Zia,Arabs and USA.Bhutto just gathered financial resouces and international support.

Im a muslim first and then Pakistani.
Oh? Then what are you doing in Pakistan? Why don't you go settle down in Algeria? Shouldn't your country, your nation come first always and every time? Being a Muslim is your religious identity. Being a Pakistani is your national identity. And you can be a good Pakistani Muslim.

Ask not what Pakistan can do for you, but what you can do for Pakistan. And you can do it whether you are a Muslim or not!

Pakistan was made for everyone that wanted to be part of it, where all religions could practice their religion freely (not just the Muslims or specifically the Muslims), & live peacefully without getting discriminated. Those were Jinnah's views anyways, feel free to disagree but it's true.
