Mistral row: France risks losing Rafale contract in India

Which brings us to the question of If not the US or France, then who else? AFAIK, China alone has a good record in this regard. They even arm those who're under UN sanctions. Maybe we too should buy those J-10s. :sarcastic:

How about building indigenous capabilities like we did for missiles ? just a thought.

WTF? The French have lost their balls! They have become lackeys of the US, like pet poodles UK and Germany. I just can't believe this. :fie:

A commitment is a commitment especially after the stuff has been contracted and paid for. How can they renege on the agreement/contract just because of 'pressure' from the Yanks? Does that mean that contracts signed are not worth the paper they're written on?

There's no friendship in international politics only Interests that's why i never used that word till now.

Earlier buying Weapons was mostly political decisions since we weren't having good relation witht he west... but now that scenario is gone.. we've the options to pick from where we want. Russian Planes are cheap but costs hell to operate... European weapons are superior to the russians and we're haveing and continue to develop good relations with them, then why not use the opportunity??

Our relations with the west was fine. We have purchased plenty from the British. The French, even the Swiss and the swedes. We have purchased Nuke reactors from Canada.

End of the day if the market has changed for the worse to become unreliable, we need to change with the changing times and deal with realities.

French hit an own goal here bad for their country and their business

I don't know but I don't think India is buying the Rafale anymore.

WTH!

As if EU as a whole has not slapped sanctions against Russia?

And just because France refuses to deliver a warship to India, doesn't mean it won't deliver the Rafale to India. Plus, unless India is going to do something equally stupid as Russia conquering Ukraine, it shouldn't be worried.

The French can always deliver it to Russia at another date depending on how the situation in Ukraine plays out. If they decide to cancel the deal permanently they'll just have to pay back the money that they have received plus a penalty. It's up to them.

I don't think what's happening with Russia and West should concern India
India needs the Rafale to advance it's own military industrial complex.

if you all do call off the deal your next best option would be Mig-35, but we all Mig-35 doesn't compare to the goodies in the Rafale.

Dumb ain' it? when india persuaded them Frenchies to backtrack from their agreement with Pakistan, didn't they realized how untrustworthy and unreliable they are? if they can do it with one, they can certainly do the same with the other

That is true. This decision will be watched closely by India and will certainly affect the deal.

If France is going to buckle under pressure why go for French a/c ? Might as well go for the much cheaper F-16 !!!! or even F-18.

In this world Reputation is everything.

Not making a request to backtrack would have been dumb.

not gonna happen
india is not gonna use the Rafale against Nato
they are meant to replace Mig27 and Jaguars
and mentain our Combat edge over south asia

For combat edge over Pakistan, India needs only one to two squadrons.

For combat edge over BDesh or S Lanka, 3 planes.

For combat edge over Nepal, one

For combat edge over China, 126 won't cut it. India probably will need double that number.

Bottom line: get 2 squadrons from France. Buy 200+ from Russia and still save money.

Why do you think Pakistan wants to buy helicopters from Russia? Cheaper and decent performers.

For some reason, India is throwing away a time tested supplier.
