My PAK-FA analysis

Premier Putin satisfied with Russian fifth-generation fighter tests | Top Russian news and analysis online | 'RIA Novosti' newswire

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said he was satisfied with the tests of a Russian fifth-generation fighter jet.

"Flight tests of the fifth-generation fighter are continuing successfully," Putin said.

"Once again I want to thank everyone who worked on this machine, as well as those who are now putting it in the air," the premier continued.

The first Russian fifth-generation fighter jet was delivered to Zhukovsky in the Moscow Region for a flight test on April 8.

The fighter performed its maiden flight on January 29, when the jet spent 47 minutes in the air.

The Sukhoi design bureau started project development of the aircraft after it received the tender in April 2002. Last summer, the fighter's design was approved, and the prototype blueprints were delivered to the KNAAPO aviation construction company based in Komsomolsk-on-Amur.

The T-50 is the domestic name of the plane which had been developed as the Advanced Front-Line Aviation Complex (PAK FA) for Russia's Air Force. The PAK FA can carry either eight next-generation air-to-air R-77 missiles, or two large controllable anti-ship bombs weighing 1,500 kg each. It can also carry two long-range missiles developed by the Novator Bureau which can hit targets within a 400 kilometer range.

You are right. Do you know, even the engine and some avionics are same. Its because Russians are testing the 5th gen features first on Su35BM. But its good that you demonstrated it.

nicley dont Blackblood. Even i thought there were similarites between the 2 aircraft.. thanks for making it more clear.

Su-35 + Su 34 = PakFA/ T-50
It might be true right now. But PakFa is in the development stages and a lot has to be added and removed. But i think design-wise it would be the same. Lets see the next prototype and the prototype of fgfa which will fly in 2011.

Not sure what that picture is trying to prove, yes the pak-fa and the SU-35 both have an IRST and similar landing gear, but that is where the similarities end. Overall geometry of the two aircraft is vastly different. I must also add that whoever made the comparison has to be challenged in the head, since when did both aircraft have the same or even remotely similar bays for the landing gear...?

LOL  Since when are the gears part of the design?

Lets take it step by step, at first of course the T50 has similarities, because it is an evolution of the Flanker design instead of a complete new design. Although some of our Pakistani friends believes that this somehow could be bad, it actually very logical, because everybody knows how capable the Flankers are and why it was exported and copied in high numbers (not to forget that several Pakistani members would love to see Flankers in PAF).
Even western experts expects the flight performance of T50 at least comparable to F22 and that is based on this design!

As an evolution it is logical, that it uses common weapons, or techs and even makes use of the useful design benefits of the Flankers, that's why Sukhoi again went for a similar fuselage designs, but one have to be blind to see other similarities.

- nose cockpit section are completely new designed
- no canards, but completely new movable LERX
- air intakes are a new stealthy shaped designs, show me a single Flanker with the same air intakes please
- wings are new as well, just like the all moving tail fins
- IRST (2), MAWS (4), gears (1 and 5), or the S117 engines that are know to be a stop gap only are not part of the design (point 3 is not even showing the same parts)

So once again, how can a fighter with new nose/cockpit section, new wings, new LERX, new tailfins, new air intakes, in the final versions also new engines can have an identical design? :disagree:

Third PAK-FA prototype breaks cover

Russian-language spotter pages are reporting the first sighting of the third Sukhoi PAK-FA prototype at the Siberian flight test centre in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. As soon as pictures become available, we will post them.

The T-50-3 prototype is reportedly scheduled for first flight by the end of 2011. It follows the maiden of sorties of T-50-2 in February and T-50-1 in January 2010.

The third prototype is understood to carry the PAK-FA's active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar. T-50-2 is an avionics and mission systems test aircraft, and T-50-1 is dedicated to flight sciences testing.

Sukhoi has already completed more than 100 flights of the PAK-FA prototypes in less than 22 months of flight testing, including a chequered appearance at Moscow's MAKS air show in August where T-50-2 had an engine blow-out on take-off.

PAK-FA is slim version of stealth. The most beautiful and deadly jetfighter....
