Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah, who is often in the news over his political views, has slammed Indian Muslims who have been celebrating the Taliban and said they should question their beliefs.

Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah, who is more in the news for his political views rather than his acting chops these days, has slammed the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan. He also condemned Indian Muslims who have been celebrating the Taliban.

Soon enough, Naseeruddin Shah earned both bouquets and brickbats on social media for his views on the Taliban.

In the video, Naseeruddin Shah says, “Even as the Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan is a cause for concern for the whole world, there are celebrations among some sections of Indian Muslims. This celebration of the barbarians is no less dangerous.”

Naseeruddin Shah urged all Indian Muslims to question themselves if they want to “reform Islam, support modernity, or live with the barbaric traditions and values”.

The actor went ahead to draw comparisons between the Islam practised in India to that in the other parts of the world to note that ‘Hindustani Islam’ has always been different.

“May Allah not bring a time when it changes so much that we cannot even recognise it,” said Naseeruddin Shah in the video.

While some on Twitter heaped praises on Naseeruddin Shah for taking a stand against the celebrations surrounding the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan, others have slammed him saying “he should stick to films and steer clear of topics he has no knowledge about... A non-practicing Muslim wants Islam to reform. I wish he had first practiced Islam before coming up with this appalling suggestion.”

Another user called Naseeruddin Shah “an atheist” using his “Muslim identity for self-promotion”. On the other hand, many others have come out in support of Naseeruddin Shah.

You will find many apologists, trying to please the majority.
What good does supporting talibs really do? Except to rile up few feathers using right wing politics. Indian Muslims are better than this always have been despite the few naysayers.
I wonder what is up with the Saffron (Gerua) Get-up?

His cajones squeezed a bit too tight by Hindutvas in Mumbai? :p:
If only a colour accurately portrayed your ideology

Supporting Taliban, alqaida and isis is know as terror sympathising.
It is my sincere belief that majority of Muslims in India do not support such elements. @jamahir what is your observations on this topic??

Bold Part is your & world's opinion, not many muslims (Indians included) consider them terrorists.

Their ultimate victimhood has driven them to justify the worst.

You can find taliban cheerleaders here in lots....

Every man can choose to cheer whomever they want to cheer for. Preaching others about whom they are expected to support is immature.

The only real expectation from citizens is to obey the rule of law.
