Pakistan has deployed more troops on the eastern border with India, saying the heightened tension with the neighbouring country has affected its efforts against the Taliban and other extremist organisations on the western border.

Confirming the report about reinforcement of troops on the Indian border, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Britain, Wajid Shamsul Hasan, said that India had increased pressure on the border by building several new military cantonments close to the sensitive frontier, and Islamabad can not remain subservient to the move.

“The government has had to send some troops down there because we don''t want to leave ourselves exposed. This is taking away from our defence capabilities on the Afghan border. We really wish the international community would intervene, but nobody has said anything to the Indians,” The Financial Times quoted Hasan, as saying.

Experts and diplomats, however, have described the troops reinforcement as more of a political and diplomatic move rather than a strategic one.

“Every time Pakistan has to defend itself on criticism for gaps in its campaign, they bring up India. The campaigns in Waziristan cannot be expanded because of India, for example, is one issue,” the newspaper quoted a western diplomat, who is based in Islamabad, as saying.

Ashley Tellis, a senior associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, said that the recent arrests of top Taliban leaders in Pakistan, including the Afghan Taliban’s second in-command Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, was primarily motivated by wanting to dent the negotiations between Kabul and the international community and the Taliban.

“Pakistan is motivated by the conviction that India, not the Afghan Taliban, is the main enemy to be neutralised in the Afghan endgame,” Tellis said.

Former Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri also admitted that despite calls from the international community to reduce tension, Islamabad would continue to prioritise its eastern border to protect itself against a rival with which it had fought “three major wars and two minor ones”.

“We have enough problems of our own on our eastern border. We are concerned about India. Resolve the problems with India and then our security orientation could change,” Kasuri said.

Pak increases troops at border, blames India's assertiveness

LONDON: Pakistan has sent extra troops to its border with India due to rising tensions, the country's High Commissioner to the UK, Wajid Shamsul Hasan, has said, adding Islamabad had been "unsettled" by pressure on its eastern border.

Hasan told London-based Financial Times that assertiveness by New Delhi was sapping his country's ability to fight Pakistani Taliban militants.

"He (Hasan) said Islamabad had been unsettled by pressure on its eastern border created by the building of military cantonments close to the sensitive frontier over the past year," the newspaper reported.

According to Pakistan's top officials, rising tensions with India allegedly prevented it from expanding its military campaign against Taliban militants on its western border, it said.

"The government has had to send some troops down there because we don't want to leave ourselves exposed," Hasan said.

"This is taking away from our defence capabilities on the Afghan border. We really wish the international community would intervene, but nobody has said anything to the Indians," he said.

The report quoted Pakistani officials as saying that the number of troops the army had deployed was 'modest' and declined to give details, but added that "the reinforcements are estimated to be in the hundreds".

What non performance???We had a peace deal with these people they broke it so we had to engage. We are only taking the operation slowly because we don't want any civilians/innocent people who didn't have anything to do with these (RAW invested) Taliban to get killed.Otherwise Pak armed forces have the upper hand on these miscreants:sniper::pakistan:

lol
We defeated talibs in Bajor, Bunair, Malakand, Swat....

and ISAF ...only at marjah
where by the way taliban have full control at night according to reports generateing in west

lol

as for india, its an enemy and it is doing what it does best...
LTTE is small example of indian involvement in other countries

The Indians reporting the news have woken up very late or something other on their mind.

So they have no idea about the decimation of the taliban in Swat, no idea that SW is back in Pakistani hand and PA is stationed there, and that PA is now on the go in the Orakzai Agency and Khyber Agency. Wow, they really need to upgrade their intelligence skills, watching little Pakistani News channels will not harm them, rather will update them to what's happening on this side of the border, but i think even if they do watch the latest news, their news item will remain the same like above.

Anyway, it would be better if the Indian news channels ask the west what has it done by deploying just 100,000 soldiers in whole of Afghanistan, while we have deployed more then 100,000 soldiers in a very tinny area compared to their holding of Afghanistan. But nops, Indians are never gonna ask these questions, i believe you know well why.

And when have we ever said India is to be blamed for not defeating the taliban ?? Even when the mumbai saga was at its height, we still had thousands of troops in the FATA region who were doing their part.

anway, what else to expect. usual.

Please post neutral sources, not something written by indian media with pure anti pakistan agenda.

Also the title is copied from a title by Eric Magnolias, Canet beat taliban blame Pakistan. This is quite low for journalism.

Last I checked the Taliban were thrashed in Swat, South Waziristan and Bajaur, with the military expanding into some other agencies.

So where exactly is this 'non-performance'

You were warned yesterday.

Thank you for stopping by to troll.

What recent hostilities???Did we made an incursion in your territory??
Can we have a list of incidents in the past month??? Looks like army is moving back to eastern border because it feels TTP is weakened.May be TTP is waiting for some time before it launches a fresh assault.I am just saying a few hundred soldiers are not going to make a difference on the eastern border, when India is not taking any aggressive action, whereas these few hundred would be able to beat lots of Talibanis.

At the moment most of the hysterical headlines are from the Indian media, and the hysteria primarily being displayed by Indian analysts like Ashley Tellis.
