NSC to approve new blueprint of foreign policy

The three-day Envoys’ Conference on Thursday finalised a new blueprint of the country’s foreign policy after a thorough policy review with a special emphasis on Pakistan’s relations with United States of America (USA) and other NATO allies.

A well-placed source told Pakistan Today that the recommendations would now be presented in the upcoming meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) for a formal approval which would be attended by the country’s top civilian and military leaderships.

It would be for the first time that Pakistan has gone for a complete review of its foreign policy following the policy review made by the country under then military dictator General Pervez Musharraf soon after the 9/11 incident in 2001.

“Once the recommendations are approved by the NSC which is to be headed by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, we would start formal consultations with our friends and allies in the West, especially the USA. This review may prove to be a watershed in our diplomatic handling of issues,” the source added.

Asked to comment on the major recommendations approved in the envoys’ moot, the source refused to comment, saying that anything could be shared once it is final.

Foreign Minister Khwaja Asif also said in his briefing to the media that there would be a policy shift in the country’s foreign relations soon and the new policy will be formulated with the army and the country’s institutions and will keep Pakistan’s interests in view. He also hinted that the policy would also be submitted with the parliament for a review-based on the advice given by the envoys during the three-day meeting.

Asked to share the main features of the recommendations made by the conference participants, the source said that it won’t be appropriate to divulge the sensitive information at this critical stage.

The source said that the envoys from China, Iran, Russia and India also briefed about the new opportunities and challenges due to the fast changing regional scenario and the evolving new alignments between the regional and global players.

Asked to share the salient points of the new policy blueprint, the source said that the policy has been designed keeping in view the fast changing regional and global situation. “You know new alliances are taking shape at the global and regional arena. So the policy would focus how Pakistan would be able to tackle all challenges either in the region or at the world stage. The new recommendations have covered almost all areas of concern. Pakistan’s Afghan policy is pivotal in this regard,” the source said.

The source said that the conference had listed its recommendations to help showcase the achievements Pakistan had made in the war against terrorism and under the new policy framework, its Foreign Ministry would work diligently to promote the successes Pakistan had achieved due to its effective counterterrorism policy.

“We need to tell the world that Pakistan is the only country which has defeated the menace of terrorism on its soil. The success rate of Pakistan against terrorists is unmatched,” the source said and added that in past Pakistan had failed to convince the world about its achievements in this field.

Unfortunately, this is matched by another success rate.

I believe that it is amply known to all, with no need for further elaboration.

Can you please stop your constant rant and not derail the thread? You have been harping the same point in other threads.

Back on topic: pivot on the Afghan policy sounds interesting. Not sure what the current policy was. Defensive and non-aggressive?

Pakistan has the same foreign policy since its conception.

Minor changes may occur given the importance of some issues but as a whole no change in foreign policy is expected nor planned.

Although Pakistan's minor shift may bring major issues to others but that is of no importance to a common Pakistani.

If you wanna guage Pakistan's foreign policy, you only need to look at Pakistan Army.

In this instance, yesterday's speech of Bajwa.

In short, nothing new there - same old denial and nuclear threats.

It's good for these envoys though, they'll get to eat some of the most delicious Pakistani food when they might not be getting much in their respective countries of posting.

You cannot change a 70 year old MINDSET that has existed since the very birth of Pakistan.

Namely India is a threat to Pakistani existence AND has to be checked at every point

Pakistan must regain influence in Afghanistan At India,s cost

Pakistan must improve relations with USA AS they are getting too close to INDIA

Pakistan must be seen to be reducing its links to terror groups vocally and in internmational arena

Pakistan MUST CONTINUE to support Kashmiris

IN OTHER WORDS same old ,,, SAME OLD

But, for some paper work, especially for folks who love "documentation", it might be required!!! As for some other folks, their minds work better than super computers!!!!!

Why to change the horse at the mid-course when it's galloping forward at the lightning speed and charging fiercely like Duldul....

He always says a lot but delivery is very weak.

He said a lot about the defense forces but with the designation of Defense minister he barely had any decision or choice to make.

These folks are for PR purposes only!!! The real folks will never show up in public. Only their deeds will be known when the dust settles down....

A start would be to give Afghan "refugees" 7 months to leave.

And close the western border as they have done with the eastern one.

Great, another Indian who thinks the entire world revolves around them

It is possible that the triple talaq - by the UN, by the US and now by China - may have finally touched the truth nerve in some Pak 'envoys'. For the sake of common people of Pakistan I hope that means Pakistan will get rid of terrorism as its foreign policy

I wonder why is this poster still posting his crap. His every post is similar to this but apparantly no mod team has been able to take care of this joker. How about if I say, it is possible indian population is jumping up and down after becoming bride of afghanistan, US, and Russia at the same time which could be the reason behind recent r@p3 explosion in india.

Hey - it is simple. Point out what I said that is wrong and I am glad to correct it - regardless of whether is pro or anti Pak. @WebMaster @Horus @WAJsal @Irfan Baloch @waz @The Eagle
