the unspoken and unwritten reality is that China already blocked ALL US military advantage in the region. China PLAN for decades installed hydrophones / SOSUS lines all over the regional underwater region , including the SCS area. Thus nullyfing the US Submarine stealth advantage , especially in the SCS where a sub cant dive deep and PLAN non nuke subs have advantage.
Also PLAN spent decades seeding the underwater area with CAPTOR mines , the one with dormant torpedo inside that can be launched on order or on certain sound signature. This is why USS connecticut ran away in flank speed and hit underwater mountain. because they were caught inside chinese waters and china have no qualm using live warhead to destroy foreign sub.
