Proposed plans to Raise 2 new Corps in South Pakistan (Opinion)

We need to increase army size and modernize.
The problem is that our economy right now can not support both modernization and increasing army size. I would love to see Pakistan have a 1 million+ army like US, India, China and North korea but we cant afford it. South Korea's military which is slighy smaller than Pak military has a far stronger economy. So does Russia which is slighty larger military wise.

I think at the moment having a smaller well trained army would be a better option. For the lack of active personnel we could have 2 million+ reserve personnel instead. So in the first week of any war we can mobilize 2.5 million personnel.

However there is a solution for what you are suggesting. If you want to increase army size and modernize "right now" you need to do 2 things when PTI is back in power.

1. Rebase your GDP. Pakistan real gdp is not 383 billion USD. Not even close. Real GDP can be anywhere from 600-700 billion USD. In PPP terms we are talking about close to 2 trillion USD. With 4% of GDP going towards military you have a military budget of 20-25 billion+ USD. That more than double our current military budget at only 10 billion USD.

2. Get a functioning tax revenue system.

Our arch-rivals India did that too ?... Our strategic ally China did that ??.. Our neighbour like Iran did that ??…

Dear it's always the biggest wish of India and Anti-Pak lobbies around the world that Pakistan reduces the size of Armed Forces..... We are thin country, beside the modernisation we need to strengthen borders and conventional capabilities too...
Brother see my answer above.

Current ecnomicical situation is pretty bad but yes we need to change a policy from bigger army to smaller more capable one as Israel has

80% Sunni nation naturally allies with other Sunni nations. The earlier we realize that the more benefits we can get from it before it’s too late. Arabs would have flushed Pakistan with cash and gave us power in Muslim and made us a regional power had we joined Yemen war.
Really we don’t need to have “security ” based relationships , we need to act like Malaysia/Indonesia/turkey and have more industries and have commercial based relations

At least one Corps in Balochist Sindh could be raised if the uniformed strength is geared towards combat roles more and assigning non combat roles to Ministry of Defense rather than keeping it under GHQ and uniformed.

Raise a Combat Aviation Brigade instead in Gwadar and use it in Baluchistan to fight a COIN war against BLF elements.

It can be composed of:

1 x Attack Squadron ( 24 x Z-10s split into 3 Companys of 8 each)

1 x Combat reconnaissance Squadron ( 12 x AH-1Fs split into 3 Companys of 4 each + 9 x Fennec split into 3 Companys of 3 each )

1 x Air Assault Squadron ( 24 x Mi-17s split into 3 Companys of 8 each)

1 x Special Ops Squadron ( 4 x Mi-24 + 4 x Mi-17 for SSG)

1 x Aviation Support Squadron ( 8 x Med Evac AW-139 + 4 x Mi17 with C4I C&C/EW capability)

1 x UAS Squadron ( 12 x CH-4B UCAV split into 3 Companys of 4 each + 9 x Shahpar UAV split into 3 Companys of 3 each)

1 x Ground Support Battalion (Air traffic services (ATS) company consisting of a two tactical tower control teams, a mobile tower team, an airspace control flight following team and a local surveillance and ground controlled approach (GCA) radar team and aviation maintenance and supply company)
I think we got to a see a Mini version of this.
3 x Burraq + 4 x CH4B Supported by AH-1Fs and Mi-17s based out of Turbat.

We can easily do that n much more by cutting back just on the clerical staff in PA
there is currently massive expansion of PA underway in Balochistan. Namely massive cantt expansions at Gwadar & Khuzdar (not the nukeys there). Plus the establishment of new helo base at dalabadin and the upgradation with new hangars for Turbat & Khuzdar helo bases. And construction of atleast 3 new airstrips by PA.

Maray bhai do u even know the no. Of PA employees working with a clerical trade ?.....just the expense of maintaining an army with a19th century colonial mindset , simply dwarfs the expenses u have mentioned above.

Air assets are mandatory to cover desert/difficult terrain regions because of speed.

Every 15-20 years some bright spark comes out with an idea to trim the fat and fix the teeth to tail ratio, and shortly after its implemented, we suddenly discover why we needed it in the first place and have to do new recruitments or worse hire contractors.

Unless its an aviation brigade type formation with light troops for heliborne Ops, the effort may not be in the right direction.

Both are needed.
