Seems to me like Chinese have embraced same route as of South Africa in their Rooivalk program. z-19 seem to be a heavily re-worked and dedicated attack variant from original z-9 airframe. Rooivalk was the result of a similar effort taken on Puma helis in their service and some French association was also involved. Overall, seems to be a promising design.

Some Chinese forums are already debunking this new Z-19 thing.

The cockpit being shown on the lower left side seem more likely a Z-10 cockpit rather then some Z-19 thingy.

One blurred pictured saying to be from 2001 shows such a design, 9 years and still no official induction.

It either i more likely a technology demonstrator whose learning were inputted into the Z-10 attack helicopter, as 2 platforms of similar specifications going side by side seems unrealistic if we look at the Chinese defence industry.

Wastage of time as well as resources and Chinese don't do that.

Plus the maker of Z-9 helicopter on which the Z-19 is supposed to be based on HAMC was initially teamed up with CAIC to develop Z-10 attack helicopter, but due to some incompetency shown at HAMC, CAIC became the sole developer of the Z-10 and HAMC continued with their Z-9 productions mostly and other helicopter.

So end result is, 2 similarly deigned helicopter programs working in tandem is somewhat hard to digest.

The current strategy of PLA seem to have armed versions of Z-9 as light attack / scout helicopters, while Z-10 to be the main attack helicopter, just like the US Kiowa / Apache pair working together.

as Pakistani think every think which made in china and turkey is for Pakistan. BETA u can buy everything even f-22 but all it's require money and i don't think chines don't invent it for donation.
sir that was below the belt ..........here due to advance tecnology we r able to represent the thinking of a common man of our respected countries ............so pls refrain yourself from making such comments........

AIRWOLF

I think 50 of the attack copters would be sufficient for Short term

If we had more transport planes we could have had better operations in flood areas

agreed but the z-10 engine issues persist and this cld just be a fallback position. at best the z-19 looks like a light attack helo!

Well Sir, as per latest reports it seems for now the Chinese are going with local engine WS-9 engine as foreign option is expensive as well as other problems too.

In Z-10 it seems the only problem left was the engine, but Chinese are working with Ukrainians as well as Russians for a more powerful engine.

As said the blurred pictures came out in 2001, 9 years and no clear picture yet, the picture in post also shows just start of the cockpit, which is more like the Z-10 cockpit.

Z-9 has the armed versions which are being used as stop gap measures for attack helicopters till Z-10 fully becomes operational.

Prototype of New Chinese Attack Helicopter Revealed

Chinese aviation firm AVIC has revealed the first prototype of the new home-grown anti-armor attack helicopter Z-19. This new attack helicopter is based on the Z-9W anti-armor attack helicopter which itself was derived from the license-built AS-365N.

New anti-armor attack helicopter features a new narrow forwarded fuselage with tandem compact layout similar to that is being used on the other gunship helicopters like Z-10, TAI/Agusta Westland T-129, AH-1Z Viper, AH-64 Apache, Eurocopter Tiger, Mil Mi-28 and HAL Light Combat Helicopter.

Z-19 attack helicopter seems to have retained the aft fuselage and rotor system of the Z-9WA. New helicopter is likely to use that same power plant as that of Z-9WA as part of a low risk approach. First prototype of Z-19 was reported to have flown couple of months ago in May this year.

This new helicopter is likely being develop to complement Z-10 attack helicopter which has suffered several delays due to engine related troubles. Z-10 attack helicopter flew for the first time back in April 29, 2003.

New Z-10 has modified engine exhausts to reduce IR signature of the Z-10 helicopter. Initially Z-10 prototypes were powered by PT6C-76C engine but for production version Chinese are likely to use the WZ-9 engines. The latest rumor claimed that the first batch of Z-10A is entering service with PLA Army Aviation.

Z-9W was China’s first anti-armor attack helicopter that become operational with People's Liberation Army. It can be armed with the HJ-8A wire-guided ATGMs, or 57mm/90mm rocket pods, or 23mm cannons, or TY-90 IR-guided AAMs.

Pak army isnt going to buy this....ATAK T-129 is comming ans super cobras are assured.
54 plus Cobras upgraded, 2 dozen light assault Fennecs are already there.
We need a TRUE ASSAULT HELI... not a semi assault version of Z-9 anti submarine n electronic warefare (Already in service with Pak Navy)

Z-19 is good it will look deadliest if they modify its shape a little to look like Commanche.
