Massacre in Lanjot: Protest day observed in AJK
By Our Correspondent

MUZAFFARABAD, Feb 28: Protest day was observed on Monday across the Azad Jammu and Kashmir to express indignation against the recent massacre of 14 people in Lanjot village by Indian troops.

Rallies and demonstrations were held on the fourth consecutive day. Shops and business centres remained closed till noon. Traffic was very thin on roads.

The strike call was given by All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC).

Indian troops on Thursday night sneaked into the Lanjot village in district Kotli and slaughtered 14 people, including six women, and five children.

In Muzaffarabad, two demonstrations were held to condemn the incident.

The main rally was held outside the old civil secretariat. The demonstrators, including political workers, students, government servants and Kashmiri refugees, were holding black flags and wearing black arm bands to protest the Indian brutalities in the held Kashmir and AJK.

They were also holding banners and placards, inscribed with slogans against Indian aggression and terrorism demanding India to quit Kashmir.

The rally was addressed among others by the acting AJK prime minister Sahibzada Ishaq Zafar, APHC convener Syed Yousaf Naseem, secretary general Ghulam Mohammad Safi, MC(Q) leader MLA Ali Khan Chughtai, Jamaat-i-Islami held Kashmir leader Ghulam Nabi Noshehri, Tehreek-e-Jafria leader Mufti Kifayat Hussain Naqvi, secretary Kashmir Liberation Cell Sardar Sawar Khan, deputy chief organizer of PPAK, Shoukat Javed Mir, human rights activist Hamayun Zaman Mirza and Rana Shabbir Rajourvi.

Speaking on the occasion the acting PM said that the Indians had gone mad after failing to curb the popular freedom movement in held Kashmir. Massacre of innocent people was an ample proof of India's frustration, he said.

He called on the world community to take serious notice of the Indian barbarism. He declared that the people of Azad Kashmir would not stop their support to their freedom-seeking brethren across the LoC.

He urged President Clinton to not only visit Pakistan during his South Asia tour but also visit the Azad Kashmir and Indian occupied Kashmir to see the state of repression let loose by New Delhi against Kashmiris.

Mr Clinton must bear in mind that all of his efforts to establish peace in the region would not succeed until and unless the longstanding Kashmir problem was resolved, he said. Convener of the AJK chapter of the APHC, Syed Yousaf Naseem said the people of Kashmir would frustrate Indian designs and achieve their goal of freedom, come what may.

Other speakers also castigated India and said such cowardice acts would not deter the people of Kashmir from their mission.

Later, the participants of the rally marched to UN military observers office and delivered a memorandum to the UN officials. The students and teachers of the Sehaili Sarkar Higher Secondary School took out a rally. At the UN observers' office, the principal of the Girls Degree College, Ms Hameeda Zafar and two other teachers delivered a protest note addressed to the UN chief Kofi Annan.

Members of the Central Union of Journalists, led by Wahid Iqbal Butt, Sardar Zulfikar Ali and Ms Amira Batool, staged a sit-in outside the UN observers' office.

Sardar Zulfikar asked the UN observers to convey the sentiments of the journalist community to the UN chief. They demanded the world body to stop the bloodbath in Kashmir.

MIRPUR: Protest day was also observed here. People belonging to all segments of society came to the streets in Mirpur to express resentment against the act of terrorism by the Indian troops.

A large number of people, including doctors, lawyers, para medical staff, businessmen, government employees, brought out processions from different parts of the city.

The processionists were raising slogans against mounting terroristic activities by India in the border areas and continued human right abuses in occupied Kashmir. They also demanded for early grant of right to self-determination to the people of Kashmir.

All the processions later converged into a protest rally at the district courts promises.

Both active and effective: A short history of Indian Special Ops

The dawn would have illuminated the pools of blood, as the villagers emerged to count their dead. For all of the night of February 24, 2000, residents of the hamlet of Lanjote had bunkered down, hoping not to be hit by artillery fire arcing across the LoC. The 16 bodies on the streets, though, bore evidence of the precision savagery of the knife, not the shell: 90-year-old Mohammad Alam Wali, and a young couple, Mohammad Murtaza and Kali Begum, had been decapitated. Limbs were severed; heads hacked. The youngest victim, Ahmad Niaz, was just two.

With deliberation, it seemed, the killers left behind a watch, Indian-made, and a hand-written note: “how does your own blood feel”.

For years now, Pakistan has claimed the massacre at Lanjote was carried out by Indian special forces. In private, some Indian intelligence officials admit the killings were carried out through pro-India insurgents— as revenge for the near-identical massacres of scores of Hindus by the Lashkar-e-Toiba in J&K’s Doda and Rajouri districts.

UN is a piece of shit... nations regularly abuse and violate international laws and nothing happens.. International law exists only in books.

Under UN Laws Self Determination Is Only For Non Muslims Nations Like East Timor and South Sudan Not For Muslims Like Kashmir and Palestine

imaginary article to feed that typical victim hood mentality.

This behading and killing could have been done by internal elements of Pakistan and they are blaming India. Remember that killing of 150 innocent children and bus killing of minority Muslims. They get devine fun in blaming India.

Chaliye 2 page ki discussion main Black cat commando se Pro Indian insurgent pe to AA gaye. We shall get real answer in few page of discussion.

no we avenged them... crossed the LOC n came back with indian heads....
India did the same post that and crossed the LoC to kill Pakistanis. Heads were brought back to India as well.

Not only that, the commandos had written "something which I cant type here" with the slain terrorist's blood on the walls of their houses and came back with the "trophies".

@Geralt
The blog post narrates events detailed in Dawn and some Indian outlets (details might vary)
Praveen Swami has reported on the incident from the Indian perspective. His sources are from the Indian Military, and some twisted and uncorroborated justification for the massacre is provided, but he does confirm the massacre itself.

A certain (retired?) Indian major called Lemontree, who is a moderator on WAB, confirmed the massacre in a public exchange with me on WAB as well, though he too provided some twisted justification for the deliberate commission of war crimes by the IA.
Yes, some IA officers have off the record confirmed this incident.

And no, there was no twisted justification. It was a clear reason. Pakistanis used JeM to massacre Sikhs(primarily) and Hindus, one particular night in a J&K district. It was part of their Kashmir strategy then.

As far as we are concerned, we consider JeM and the likes as extensions of Pakistani Army. So an operation was mounted to pay back in the very same coin.

And we have declared this time and again, any militant activity in J&Kwill be responded in kind to Pakistan. India considers the actions of militants in J&K as actions directed by PA.

it is an excerpt from Indian source idiot ....

In February 2000, The Indian Special forces known as "Black Cat" attacked Aazad Kashmir in the area of Lanjoot, they took control of a Pakistani village and spent a whole night there and martyred 14 innocent people. The Indian forces beheaded three Muslim Girls that night because of there sheer hatred for Muslims, and took 2 girls with them the next day when they retreated. In the following 24 hours Indian forces beheaded our 2 Muslim sisters and threw their heads near The check post of Pakistan Army.
Victims included children aged 2 years to 10 years, women aged 20 to 80, Men aged 27 to 95
It was done in revenge for Pakistan using terrorist group JeM to conduct a massacre Sikhs in J&K.

And India will continue to take revenge from Pakistan for every death caused by Pakistani terrorists.
This was the only way to teach lesson after all.Because such incidents would have been expected to rise.Plus,UN won't be able to do anything due to stubborn attitude of another nuclear state.
However,to show mirror sometimes, these events must be addressed.
Regards
UN can do nothing. India had to resort to the same Pakistani tactics after UN was ineffective in stopping Pakistan from using JeM to conduct massacre of Sikhs in J&K.

Yes.
They also wrote a message for PA during the operation of which the OP speaks.
