Should Turkey remove millitary conscription ?

It's highly effective in our men. It changes you a lot. Not because of military thing. But your way of thinking, life perspective...in turkey it only makes the volunteers a soldier. But it makes the others a man.

My grandfather who served in Turkish army always stresses the benefits he got from the army. He was electric engineer in the army but previously he was uneducated, had to work for living and feed his three little brothers and mother (because his dad died on an early age) but after his service he become a skilled worker because of experience in the army and he used those skills in business life and earned a good living until his retirement. He always says without the army, he would not have had an education. Another thing he learned is how to shoot a gun. He says he was an excellent marksmen.

I get that you Turks are serious about your military, but why force people to join the army? it will put them off, they won't have much motivation and will fail the military, eventually even disliking the military. A voluntary soldier will not be like this.

In Turkey your are not a ''man'' if you havent done your military service yet.
So it is a very important issue,thats why we make a big deal of it saying good bye and welcome back home.
It is an honor to be a soldier for evry turkish young man.
You just do it and get on with your life after.

Depending on which State Run department your talking about. Nothing runs better than the Military Department.

Not really, not even in the USA... Do you really wanna pay $4000 for a wrench??? Or $100.000 for an hour in the Apache??? The military in the USA or any other country is the most wasteful institution in the world... Check out Israel recent percentage figures of how much the military eats out of the state budget.. A lean, mean guerilla group like Taliban, Viet Cong or Hezbollah will always beat the **** out of Russia, Israel, USA or English armies... Proven in history many many times...

Warriors survived the Timucin's (Genghis Khan) Mongol armies, fought all the towards Europe, conquered Constantinople (first state to recognize Christianity as their religion), set up an empire, conquered half of Europe, North Africa, Middle East and more.. Now a days there are Contracts everywhere in the acquisition process trying to make a few bucks here and there.
Back in the Day, if the military wanted something they made it themselves.
Now everything is bought on the Capitalist market. Even MREs.
