What's new

Statue of Qaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah in York University Toronto

Old pictures, nothing new. it was 2007

York President & Vice-Chancellor Lorna R. Marsden and Ghalib Iqbal, Pakistan's consul general in Toronto, presided at the unveiling of the bronze casting Tuesday, along with Mike Colle, Ontario’s minister for citizenship and immigration. “Jinnah was a great Muslim leader,” said Colle. “He played a dynamic role in the creation of the nation of Pakistan in 1947. And, to me, he is the George Washington of Pakistan.”

No one would look up to the Quaid-e-Azam role model, nobody cared.

Yes building statues of living things is most definitely HARAAM in ISLAM... period.

The best a nation can do for the remembrance of its leader is follow his teachings. Not erecting statues.

And for those who consider that it is not haraam here is some thing to consider... for had it been allowed to build and erect statues in Islam, then you can bet your bottom dollar (or whatever currency u can consider), that the statues of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.), would outnumber all other statues in the world! (na'oozubillah)

As far as Quaid e Azam goes, he was one indeed the Great Leader for the Muslims of Subcontinent and no better words summarized him than Stanley Wolpert in his book Jinnah of Pakistan:

Few individuals significantly alter the course of history. Fewer still modify the map of the world. Hardly anyone can be credited with creating a nation-state. Mohammed Ali Jinnah did all three.

The 1.5-metre-high bronze casting on stone plinth was created by David Mcdougall.
