Taliban suicide bombers strike in Pakistan, Afghanistan

Taliban suicide bombers struck on both sides of the Durand Line, killing 51 and wounding score more in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The suicide attack in Pakistan took place in the settled district of Buner in the insurgency-infested Northwest Frontier Province. A suicide bomber detonated his bomb in a polling station in a school in Shalbandai. More than 35 Pakistanis, including children and policemen, were killed in the strike.

Elections were being held to fill a vacant seat in Pakistan's national assembly. Pakistan's election commission closed down polling stations in Buner and suspended the by-election.

The local tribes in the Shalbandai region of Buner killed six Taliban fighters on Aug. 12.

The last suicide attack in Buner took place on Dec. 9, when a terrorist was stopped before he could strike at a government installation. One child was killed and another was seriously wounded in the bombing.

The Taliban have attempted to extend its power in Buner, but local tribes have formed militias to oppose the Taliban expansion. The Taliban still maintain a strong presence in the district despite the tribal militias.

Across the border in Afghanistan, a suicide bomber struck outside of a government center located next to a school in the Haqqani Network stronghold of Khost province. Fourteen children and two soldiers were killed in the attack. Thirteen children and 12 soldiers were among the more than 50 Afghans wounded in the attack.

Khost province in the home of the Haqqani Network, which is run by former mujahideen leader Jalaluddin Haqqani and his son Siraj. Both Jalaluddin and Siraj have close ties with al Qaeda its leader, Osama bin Laden.

The US military has conducted multiple cross-border airstrikes agianst the Haqqani Network infrastructure in North Waziristan.

These murderer terrorists should be tortured and killed along with their entire families. Taliban is not a religious group but it is a cult bent on destruction of Pakistan. Even the muslims must realize that they want to destroy Islam itself.

America clearly wants them to bomb us and kill our people and therefore is trying to divert their anger to us. They cant bear one soldier of their to die but they are happy with over 4200 Pakistani civilians being killed. Best thing would be if they get those Americans the hell out of Afghanistan and the taliban can stop justifying what they are doing in the name of Islam to those illiterate jahils in the Triba areas. Then we can have a genocide of taliban in which I would gladly take part in. Not one taliban should be left alive. Their children must be taken and given an education rather than be brainwahsed and taught murder by money from a foreign hostile nation on our east.

Death to Taliban.

What do you expect my friend there are bound to be Jahils living in FATA areas education system is literally dead, no employment prospects, no industries all these people are taught is how to fire guns, what the Pakistan government needs to do is to bring FATA into NWFP province develop the infrastructure. 100% agreed education is the number one priority in FATA.

Pakistan cannot win this war by just killing Talibans.They should kill Talibans and setup proper Education Infrastructure in Fata so people get educated..

Nobody disagrees that the Taliban are scum who disregard the teachings of Islam and are disgracing Islam by saying their actions are for it. However if NATO leaves Afghanistan Pakistan will have more problems, the Taliban will regain control of the country and use it as a base to launch attacks against Pakistan from. Not to mention the people that would be freed up by a NATO withdrawal to attack Pakistan with, the Taliban don't just want to resume their horrific rule of Afghanistan they want to take over control of Pakistan as well. Besides they would feel they had won if NATO left Afghanistan and they would be more likely to take more serious actions against Pakistan.

Surely from your point of view you would rather it was Western troops fighting and taking losses against the Taliban than more Pakistani troops being forced to fight and take the losses?

:rolleyes:
Yes, you can keep saying it. You can't show the evidence to Pakistan, only SAY it. You can try to unite the world against Pakistan with your propoganda, only to look like fools afterwards. Get off your high horses, Indians. The mumbai terrorists may have been Pakistani, but that does not mean they had the support of Pakistan.

* 4 children, 2 policemen among dead
* Swat-based Taliban claim responsibility
* President, PM condemn attack
* By-poll suspended

MINGORA: Thirty-four people, including four children, were killed and more than a dozen injured in an attack – which police have described as a suicide bombing – at a polling station set up for a by-election in Bunir district of NWFP on Sunday.

Police said the bomber targeted the polling station – set up at a primary school – with an explosives-laden car when people were casting their vote in the by-election for the constituency NA-28. The seat fell vacant when Awami National Party (ANP) parliamentarian Abdul Matin Khan passed away.

Bunir lies on the edge of Swat valley. News agencies said four children and two policemen were among the dead. The school building collapsed.

Swat-based Taliban have claimed responsibility and warned of more attacks, with their spokesman saying the polling station had been targeted to avenge the killing of six Taliban by Bunir locals.

Officials said the ballot was suspended following the bombing.

Condemnation: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani have condemned the attack, and ordered an investigation.

Meanwhile in Swat, security forces targeted Taliban positions in Matta tehsil, but there were no casualties. Reuters reported that 34 Taliban and two soldiers were killed in clashes on Saturday.

Separately on Sunday, the Taliban executed a man for allegedly killing his wife.

And for the apologists of the taliban, when was the military deployed in Swat?

Not until after Mullah FM ands his bunch of thugs had run rampant through the area and overpowered local security forces and then the FC. There was no instigation of these criminals through 'military operations', which is the excuse often bandied about to explain the criminal actions of the Taliban .

:angry::tup::agree:guss, if US of A can make india cool down the recent situation , PA should go after ! to these cool blooded murders, with full swing, & with full fire power!

Taliban Hit Pakistan Town That Fought Back

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Four months ago, the people of the Pakistani mountain village of Shalbandi gained national repute after a village posse hunted down and killed six Taliban fighters who had tied up and killed eight local policemen. The posse displayed the Taliban corpses like trophies for other residents to see, and the village was celebrated as a courageous sign that the Taliban could be repelled.
On Sunday morning, the Taliban struck back.:tsk::cry:

A suicide car bomber set off an explosion at a school in Shalbandi that was serving as a polling place, as voters lined up to elect a representative to the National Assembly. More than 30 people were killed and more than two dozen wounded, according to local political and security officials. Children and several policemen were among the dead.:cry:

The attack was the latest demonstration of the Taliban’s bloody encroachment eastward and deeper into Pakistan from the lawless tribal areas on the western border. Shalbandi is less than 100 miles northwest of Islamabad, the capital, and lies just south of the lush Swat Valley, a onetime ski resort known as the “Switzerland of Pakistan” that has been largely taken over by the Taliban despite large-scale army operations.

In the frenzied aftermath of the car bombing, survivors and witnesses offered conflicting accounts of the attack, said Mian Iftikhar Hussain, information minister for the North-West Frontier Province, where Shalbandi is located.

In one version, he said, the bomber sped his car toward the school but plowed into adjacent shops. The explosion was so large that it destroyed part of the school and killed many people waiting to vote. In the other version, he said, the killer parked near the school and told people he was having car trouble. As people gathered, he detonated the bomb inside. :angry::sniper:
“He pretended his car was not working, then he asked for help, people came and tried to push it, and then it blew up,” Mr. Hussain said. It was not clear which account was more accurate.:angry:
A Taliban spokesman claimed responsibility for the attack as retribution for the deaths of six fighters, according to a Pakistani news channel.

The Pakistani military claimed over the weekend that it had killed 34 militants in Swat, just north of Buner, the district that includes Shalbandi. But the choice of Shalbandi for the attack left little doubt which six deaths the Taliban had sought to avenge.

“They singled out this village because it had clearly resisted and had expelled the Taliban by force,” said Afrasiab Khattak, head of the Awami National Party in the province, which now leads the provincial government after defeating incumbent religious parties with ties to militants in February elections.

Shalbandi had received constant threats after the posse hunted down the Taliban fighters. “Disrupting elections is a general strategy for these elements,” Mr. Khattak said.

The bombing on Sunday was not the first act of retaliation. The son of a village elder who had been a leader of the August posse was recently kidnapped by militants in Swat, Mr. Hussain, the provincial information minister, said. The elder responded by kidnapping the son of a well-known Taliban spokesman in Swat.

“These people cannot frighten us,” said Mr. Hussain, who added that voting for the legislative seat continued Sunday at other polling places. “We are ready for a dialogue, but if they continue with the violence, we will take strong action against them, even at the cost of our lives.”

And here, the militants get caught lying about their claims, when they in fact killed 14 children.

Watch closely on the right of the screen, as the children walk by the wall.

this is sick:angry::hitwall::hitwall::hitwall:

Why sick ? This is the way punishment is rendered in Orthodox Islam. Ask Taliban, they will convince you. At times I strongl;y feel that Taliban should rule the whole world and only then people will will know what a civil society should be.
