I guess so, lol,
USA is extremely car centric nation while having relatively low population(barring NY adjacent area & California). So I guess there was never major push for metros or even the public railways( their freights are probably the best in the world). While European and Asian countries are densely populated, hence the well designed public transportation system. We will see more growth in Asian countries in coming years for metros!!

Private cars and public transport don't negate each other, at least not in China

Ridership figures?

He’s being perpetually stupid about things since the density in China makes putting in subways practical as there are over 150 cities in China with a population of over 1 million meanwhile the US has less than 10.

Lol, then why US built all those subway in the first place and why the massive fanfare for a new subway completed in 40 years?

The first subways were put in back in the late 1880s by Boston and ~1900 for New York City back in the days when cars were not yet popular and people were moving from the countryside to electrified cities.

But China is 100 years behind in how people view cities. You are like most Americans in circa 1900 who found cities to be the greatest life ever compared to their old rural life.

However in time that will wear off for you guys just as it did us. Just like you thought bicycles were all you needed and cars were a “Western waste”.

But why are you stilll trying to build them now? very slowly, yes, but you still do.

So how many miles of paved road do you have for your 1.4 billion people. For our ~345M we have 4million. Do you have multiple more for all yours too?
China doesn't have much habitable lands like US does, and China started very late, the first meter of highway was built in 1990's in China and now China is already the world leader by a huge margin, 10 years ago traffic in China was one of the worst in the world but now traffic in US is no better than China's, you don't see how big a change happened in the past decade?
