US gradually armed Pakistan with 14 combat aircrafts, 59 trainer jets, 374 armoured carriers

Hi, last I heard maruts could not get a engine..

And the efforts of Kurt were allowed to go waste..

Indeed I was wondering that you guys made a jet back in those days yet it took ages to develop Tejas,
i mean you guys had the experience and the infrastructure.
it was a huge deal to make a HAL maruts back in those days.

What type of combat jets and trainers are we receiving? They not mentioned in the report.

Ok WTF is going on here. Why is media all of sudden reporting years old news now?

PAF should negotiate with US on their own used F-16s Block-15s and used F-16s Block-15s from Egypt and Venezuela.

No, these 14 F-16's were half of the 28 that we had paid for and then sanctioned. They were delivered somewhere around 2006-2008 time period.
Original purchase in 80's = 38
Sanctioned 14 in 2006-2008 = 14
Block 50/52 = 18
Jordan = 14
Total 84
18 Blk 52 if bought would take PAF to the actual required number 100 F-16's. Remember in the 80's that was the actual number that was required.

Egypt has no Block 15, all their block-15s have been converted to block 40. As far as USA's used F-16 are concerned they will be available after F-35 is ready to replace them and US-Pak relations would be a factor then as well.

It is a lot easier to get the EDA stock then the ones in USA (EDA with Presidential order. USA ones with Congress Approval).

Realistic option of getting F-16's Blk 15's MLU'd or not is going to be from Europe.

100 harpoon anti-ship missiles, 500 sidewinder air-to-air missiles
Nothing says anti-insurgency weapons like harpoons and AMRAAMs, for use against errr... TTP destroyers and fighter planes of course!

Nice efforts to stop us from buying jets and weapons from China....no matter what they do they can't stop our defence cooperation with China.

WASHINGTON: The United States has handed over 14 combat aircraft, 59 military trainer jets and 374 armoured personnel carriers to Pakistan from the weapons it is leaving behind in the region, reports the Congressional Research Service.

The agency, which prepares internal reports for the US Congress, reported that the weapons supplied to Pakistan were earlier used by American forces in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Take a look: US approves billion-dollar arms sale to Pakistan

The United States is withdrawing its forces from Afghanistan and has offered some of the weapons it is leaving behind to its allies in the region, including Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Technically, these weapons are classified as “Excessive Defence Articles”, i.e. equipment used by the US forces, which can be supplied to allied nations at withdrawal instead of shipping them back to the United States.

The weapons include F-16 armaments including 500 AMRAAM air-to-air missiles; 1,450 2,000-pound bombs; 500 JDAM Tail Kits for gravity bombs; and 1,600 Enhanced Paveway laser-guided kits. All this has cost Pakistan $629 million.

Pakistan has also paid $298 million for 100 harpoon anti-ship missiles, 500 sidewinder air-to-air missiles ($95 million); and seven Phalanx Close-In Weapons System naval guns ($80 million).

Under Coalition Support Funds (in the Pentagon budget), Pakistan received 26 Bell 412EP utility helicopters, along with related parts and maintenance, valued at $235 million.

Pakistan is also receiving military equipment with a mix of its national funds and America’s foreign military funding.

These include 60 Mid-Life Update kits for F-16A/B combat aircraft (valued at $891 million, with $477 million of this in FMF).

Pakistan has purchased 45 such kits, with all upgrades completed to date. This include 115 M-109 self-propelled howitzers ($87 million, with$53 million in FMF).

The irony of it all. It is a very duplicitous relationship. On the one hand both countries accuse each other like there is no tomorrow. In fact, one might think that there are no greater enemies. Yet, the Americans are supplying all kinds of weapons and the Pakistanis are happy to oblige.

Having said that, I know it is tempting for Pakistan to refuse all these goodies. Especially considering an aggressive neighbor which is pursuing a massive military buildup. Many also claim that these weapons are battle proven and ready for use. That might all be true, but everything has a price. The US is delivering these weapons because it needs Pakistan's unquestioned allegiance. These weapons like all favors are provided only to return the favor in one or the other form. The question is how big a favor Pakistan is going to have to return and whether Pakistan is able to do so. Sometimes it is better to turn down a favor no matter how tempting and irresistible.

Can any block of F-16s be converted into another one?????????

I know that earlier blocks are converted to later ones but my point was Egypt has converted its block 15 to 40 so that they can be used further so they have no plans of selling them in near future.
