Better for Pakistan to tilt toward China but maintain good relations with USA. As long we are seen as a minor player that is irrelevant to the militarily front lines we can juggle this and prosper much like East and South East Asia did during the war on terror. The front line states (ASEAN most likely) can expect coups, rebellions, insurgencies and instability in their future.

My thinking is very different to typical Pakistani rulers of the 80's 2000's and 2010's, that jumped on the chance to be a front line state in some super powers geopolitical initiative. Reality is that being front line state is not a good position to be in economically or politically.

However to add; i believe that the discourse that will be taken by Europe in upcoming days will lay down the foundation of future china-us relations. Realignment is already happening as we speak, EU haven't forgotten the brexit episode, US was fanning Spain, Italy and Poland for breaking free from union. These things don't go unnoticed. BRI is heading somewhere... connecting china to EU, africa (European/Chinese influenced africa). I see the weakening of position on US part, however, when cornered it will retaliate, not so good news for Pakistan, torch bearer of BRI project CPEC. It's for time to tell, but in current scenario US has already lost the stronghold, now they can play for win-win situation.

I don't see any assessment in which US gets back it's position. Either it has to go offensive, outright extreme positioning but that it can't achieve by itself but needs allies; for which i am not sure will be completely playing US game this time around.

In relation to Pakistan; the first blow will come to CPEC, and for that we need to assess, the options to drag. Pakistan won't have much options left if pressure comes, economically we won't sustain unless there is a plan in place.

China built its navy...from brown water to blue water..built its airforce from ancient Soviet copies to J20 and now probable J35... it has two ACs in the waters...and third one, largest so far... is going to drydock in September....

China launched more statelites and created its own navigation system... it advanced in nuclear power design and export.. Pakistan!

China became world second largest economy by subsidising the US consumers... keeping its currency low... buying T-Bills... importing the American Inflation..just like East Asia, ASEAN or anyother emerging economy or central bank of the world.

But China also kept investing in its infrastructure, education and RnD... Long March to catching upto the US still is ongoing...

China got its hands on technology that it wanted by all and any means... and now we are in a situation that a Superpower is forced to curtail the Chinese advance by Tradewar/Hybridwar and open hostility... banning a telecom company...non-stop!

Huawei is not the issue. It is a context. It is a node in the Chain...and the US is trying hard to retard it.

The US couldn't come up with 5G...so it is trying to not allow China to become leader in this technology... The US is pressuring its allies to avoid it like a plauge... not totally successful so far.

The real problem is BRI.

BRI is not about roads or ports or bridge or railroads.... it is about creating a ShadowDollarsystem ....or more precisely a CounterDollarSystem...

There is already Digital BRI in the upswing... and Health BRI... all linked to 5G Technology.. where trade/transations happen in digital currency on secure BlockChain bypassing the SWIFT and NewYork altogether.

And that is THE reason the US wishes to kill the Chinese 5G technology. Because this is the key to Ditial Yuan ... being totally independent of DollarSystem... thus chipping away slowly.. the US ability to export its inflaction to the rest of the world.

In terms of FirePower...yes, the US can destroy the world hundred times over.. its WarMachine is still the most advanced and sophisticated.... but without the DollarSystem the WarMachine won't have feul to run.. or other nations subsidising the US primacy.

This is exactly what Putin and Xi have been trying to say or achieve... a New Global Financial Architecture.... not necessarly destroying the Dollar... but cutting away the susbidising by others.... thus bringing in a PowerBalance.

Unlike the Soviets... the Yellows are disciplined, studious and hardworking people... on top of that also one of the most intelligent ones...

And given the uniformity and continous existence of China a NationState.... with great cohesion and discipline... the US is not fighting a Soviet type challenger...

We do hear this song of decoupling and factories moiving out of China... sure... but the question is can those new manufacturing hubs replace the Chinese productivity, stability and market size?

The US can cut out China and Russia from the DollarSystem...but it will be the last thing it could do.... GlobalEconomy will take a nose dive and the US will cause massive unemployment in Europe and Asia.... everywhere...

Will it make the US more friends?

Or will it create opportunity for China to trade only in Yuan thus cutting away the subsiding mechanism of the DollarSystem.....?

KhooniVirus is just another context.... and of course, it will be exploited by the US to the max.... till now we have seen on Soundbites and Verbal Threats... but there is certain limit that the US cann't cross without harming its own economy.

Turning the world overnight into two camps...is perhaps possible...but how sustainable it is going to be?

ASEAN is fully integerated into China's economy... so is Japan and SK... EU would need more trade/exports to get out of the deep recession post-Corona..but the process started with QEs of CEB.

All those Freedom of Navigations and Bomber patrols... what do they achieve in practical terms?

Has China left those Artifical Islands or is it doubling down on their development?

Have ASEAN nations joined the US with those Freedom of Navigation Patrols or they doing trade with China?

KKH became CPEC.... CPEC will become something else...

From the US perspective ...it is fighting for its Survival/Supremecy and it needs allies to do so... what does it tell about the current level of the US Power and the Chinese Strength?

Of course, PDF posting Factions from both sides will push for their narrative...but we, as Paks, can take the Hybridwar between the US and China as something to study keenly and analyse how does it effect the Present and Future of Pakistan and IoJK?

Remember the One China Policy ...in exchange of joing US against Soviets.... keep that though in mind!!!!

China also has limited choices... if it doesn't move forward with Digital Yuan and 5G... it shall keep on subsidising the DollarSystem and shall remain a middle income country... even if it has a SpaceStation in the coming years....

Should the US pervail then the DollarSystem will continue for a couple of more decades...and the CombinedWest will remain the true ruler of the world.

Should the Chinese manage to survive the Hybridwar.... then the CombinedWest will loose it Total Power Hold on the world after 200+ years of Absoluteness!

In other words the Balance of Power will shit towards Asia after 200+years.

India can either join the CombinedWest or DigitalYaun...and later on launch its own DigitalRuppee.... but that is down the road... for now India needs to deal with its own demons internally...

One does wish that the Sino-US make a Win-Win Deal and join forces for transforming the Planet.... just a simple wish!

Pakistan must stay committed to its ally China. The coming years will test Pakistan greatly as deliberate destabilisation in the west of the country will attempt to defunction the economic potential of BRI and Gwadar. We will lose good soldiers and civilians to a new wave of indo-US terror under the guise of various names and mantras e.g. BLA, ISIS-K. Pakistan needs to toughen up in its west.

The hybrid war on China continues relentlessly and China has shown great resilience during the covid crisis. The level of false accusations and blaming of China would have caused lesser nations to unravel and be absorbed by western influencers. China hasn't even buckled socially or politically.

The Huawei, 5G and anti-dollar-centrism are far more risky affairs than Covid to the Chinese state. It is up to China and Russia to build a front in this war. Pakistan should stay the course. Though Russian activities in the mid east are reprehensible and smack of the same colonial mindset that the Europeans once exported the world over, Pakistan will find itself needing to choose either an American or Russian sphere of engagement in coming years. The Cold War is alive and well and Pakistan should take advantage for its own interests. The landlocked nations of the Caucasus and thereabouts may well find Gwadar a lucrative trading post once BRI is fully on track. NATO and its willing and/or misguided local Pakistani enablers will attempt to thwart any movement by Pakistan towards this Sino-Russian axis.

I say stuff the critics and the NATO appeasers. Pakistan's economic future lies with BRI and if that means we should welcome central Asia and Russia into our neighbourhood, fair enough. We would do well to encourage middle eastern partners in this regard also. Decades of NATO appeasing has gained nothing for the Arabs because they fail to understand the neoconservative-Christian pole to which NATO gravitate. Russia is more pragmatic and less absolutist in its religious affiliations with the middle east.

As always, Pakistan's biggest problem will be the foolishness of Pakistanis. Whether it's zainabiyoun militia or aurat marches, we have a tendency to believe hype and propaganda rather than take a long-term pragmatic approach to highly flammable issues. Pakistanis must put Pakistan first and this ultimately means siding with allies who wouldn't mess with Pakistan's stability and integrity - USA falls outside of this definition, as does Iran to a smaller degree but only because of certain regime elements. Russia used to intend malevolence towards Pakistan but not any more. Elsewhere we already know who our friends are - they speak up for us when Kashmir comes under global scrutiny. To this end, Turkey is Pakistan's only true middle eastern theatre ally. GCC may yet come round but USA and Iran have been too reckless in their nihilistic beliefs and their pointless nation building. Quite simply, there is no certainty any more in the middle east because of all this. KSA appears to be far more volatile than usual - not because the oil is running out just yet - but because of genuine market uncertainty and local war weariness.

Pakistanis alas will catch the penny but miss the pound. We will see the short-term, become blinded by ego and throw away cautiously crafted foundations. As this year progresses, we will have a clearer idea of how the pieces fan out following the Covid crisis but the game is afoot as usual. We need to remain pragmatic and rational to achieve our goals. Our long-term future lies with BRI.
