PAF CONFIRMS DELIVERIES OF FOLLOW-ON ERIEYE AEW&C

ZDK-03 are being upgraded to KJ-500 standard, but keeping the rotating disk.

PAF should opt to upgrade the Global-Eye, was recently covered by QUWA article.

6 Erieyes is still a low number considering 3 per zone working in 8 hour shifts round the clock, providing 2 coverage areas. Pakistan need 3 more to cover its gaps.

i were the defence minister, i will get h6 built factory in Pakistan, and mass produce H6 for strategic airlift command and will also use it as a base for AWACS... free from Sanctions and to deploy thousands of troops inconlict zone or peace activities.

having 2 Sq carring 2 Unit to deployment zone simultaneously will give pakistan a global reach.

It'll be very pricey. It's more of adding Erieye ERs, there's no upgrade option per se. But if there's no off the shelf fighter on the cards, then going high end with Erieye ER and Aster 30 SAMP/T might be a good idea.

Can anybody tell that why world wide its trend to place AWACS on passenger planes?
AWACS have almost always been placed on airliner/transport aircraft. That's because they are cheaper to operate and can stay in the air longer than a fighter and house all the crew and equipment.

When a large aircraft is not feasible you can even turn a helicopter into an AWACS such as to support jump jet carriers which can't operate conventional aircraft. Here is a RN Sea King based AEWS

You need high loiter time which fighters are not capable of.

Won't be surprised if PAF has been upgrading Erieyes without any advertisement. They were rumored to get Link 17 and JF-17 data link capability. Pak military hides capabilities for as long as possible.

Indian operates Ka-25, the older version of the Kamov Ka-31, pictured below. They placed an order of ten new Ka-31s for $500MM this year. Helicopter based AEW are needed to operate from smaller carriers since land based systems can't tag along the ships in open seas. Bigger carriers with countries like US and France of course operate the Hawkeye aircraft for similar purposes.

Pakistan doesn't need these as it doesn't have carriers. Land based ZDK-03 AWACS are more capable and performing duties for the navy as well.

Indian Navy has had the Ka-31 AEW system for over 15 years.
