BYD zooms past Tesla in China's electric-car market

Apart from the US that applied unfair trade practices and restrictions to block the import of Chinese EV.

What the @#$% are you talking about? There are no restrictions on Chinese EV's. Do you think Warren Buffet would have bought 25% of BYD back in 2008 if there were import restrictions here????

China is the one that imposed high tariffs on imported cars. That's why Tesla had to build a factory in Shanghai and why other foreign EV makers have a zero marketshare in China.

You have it completely backwards...as usual.

Here's somebody driving their Chinese EV in the US,

That shows all these while you have been hypernating, believing that US really practice free global trade.

Warren Buffet purchase of BYD represents the liberal aspect of free and fair trade practice by socialist China and not USA.

Get it before you gets more confused.

Tariff imposed on Chinese goods are paid by American Importers and NOT China.

So stop trolling.

Nope, eventually GigaBerlin will be switching to the Tesla custom designed 4680 batteries built in house when the GigaBerlin battery factory opens.

But right now yes they will be using the old 2170's imported from companies like CATL and Panasonic. They aren't going to sink money into new assembly lines for the old battery style...let CATL do that.
Future tense doesn't count, you got a tiny pilot plant now, the real production will still be CATL or Panasonic no matter 4680 or 2170...

I like how you have suddenly dodged your import tariff assertion (likely after you actually looked up the facts) and are now going on some tangent with ownership. All US car companies are publicly traded so there is nothing stopping anybody from buying a large chunk of them.

Yes, it is likely Tesla's auto production will grow quicker than the 4680 output of its own battery factories and that is why they have already contacted 3rd party battery manufacturers to be ready.

"Along with Panasonic, LG, Samsung, and CATL have all also indicated that they aim to produce 4680 cells for Tesla.

Along with its own battery cell production, which is being deployed at Gigafactory Texas, Berlin, and Shanghai, Tesla said that it will buy every battery cell it can from suppliers for the foreseeable future."

But notice how CATL doesn't have a monopoly on Tesla's battery supply. It is just one supplier.

The current CATL LFP battery pack is only good for the entry level short range cars.

:nono: Pen your BS to your mainly ignorant American fanboys and stop trolling in here among adults.

In the past it is well know that the US has always employed regulatory barriers e.g. esp emission, safety standard and bumper compliance to block Chinese vehicles while approving lesser foreign mades. Maybe EV made esp emision irrelevant in some state at this moment but they will soon be at their dirty tricks again.

Most Chinese car makers felt it is no longer feasible to export to US in view of the discrimination.

Whenever they complied with the standard, the US will raise the barrier higher.
That is how the US play its dirty games.
This is one area China should learn from the US in dealing with thr US.

When real journalism was still in existence in the US, it is easy to glean all these information from news paper cutting.
Now these media out of fear do self moratorium.

Your amateurish knowledge of Chinese battery technology is indeed hilarious. :sarcastic:

Whatever China will be the biggest EV automart in the world.

No, these are mostly shared standards in developed countries like in the EU, South Korea, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. Other than the color of some of the turn signals and the side the steering wheel is on the Japanese/Korean/European/American car companies sell the same cars across all countries.

Do you really think the Teslas exported by Shanghai China to the EU/Korea/Japan somehow get around these standards?? Or go down some crazy forked 30 country customization path on the Shanghai assembly line? Try using your brain for once at how stupid that sounds.

So stop your ridiculous trolling. You just troll and troll desperately made up misinformation over and over and over and over. Making up sh*t by the second.

Many third world countries don't require these standards so you end up getting cheap sh*t like this.

And the above is probably what Malaysia gets from China..without complaint.

BTW ADAC is the EU crashtest service not the US...so don't blame us for the videos.

if it is true as you claimed then Chinese made vehicles will be ubiquitous all over the US today.

Here is the video of testing done to prove how safe Chinese vehicles are.

In a way it is good some members are trolling in here.

Although I will put them in my ignore lists in order not to waste my time in useless debates.

It gives members like us an opportunity to reveal to other curious members, some of the hidden truth of the true state of the affairs and facts they are in self denial.

Here is a head on crash test between China's Geely Binyue versus Japan Honda Vezel aka Honda HR-V.

CATL is not just one, but the main supplier for Tesla. Tesla does not possess the technology to mass produce batteries, so they have to resort to CATL and other battery companies. Period.

Since the troll above H A questions of the safety of Chinese car sold in Malaysia, here is crash test result for a hot seller marketed as Proton X50.

Chinese cars would be ubiquitous in the EU too...but they aren't. Don't hear much about them in Japan either....
So you decide to divert topic after using lowlife trick of using a decades ago data to smear Chinese car, getting exposed? Look at those video you provide, looks like VHS tape recorded 20 years ago.

The only cheap shxt we know is your US B737 Max which is flying coffin. It is proven and undeniable! :enjoy:

Showing these videos shows how ignorant you are. These are from decades ago, Chinese cars achieved highest score in Euro-NCAP in 2013:

Qoros 3 achieves highest Euro NCAP score of 2013

And protectionism certainly exists. For example, Chinese cars sales rank 4th in Australia, where it does NOT have an auto industry:

China Now Ranks 4th in Australia for Sales by Country of Origin

Would you stop that.

Are there CATL batteries in the Model S - NO
Are there CATL batteries in the Model X - NO
Are there CATL batteries in the non-entry level Model 3's not made in China - NO
Are there CATL batteries in the non-entry level Model Y's not made in China - NO

Is Tesla introducing some new short range entry level Model 3's and Model Y's with CATL batteries to alleviate overwhelming demand - YES

While CATL accounts for more than half of Tesla car batteries is a fact. Haha...
