Avalanche traps about 150 Pakistani soldiers

There are plenty of monkeys in Islamabad (and Pindi) I would agree, but I was speaking more from a psychological point of view.

A mere glimpse of rows upon rows of flag-draped coffins is a powerful motivator of emotions. I hope the nation will bear this tragedy with the dignity that it deserves without infighting or other political scoring.

To that I do agree, and I hope it does happen like wise. Not the retarded politicians going on a point scoring spree.

While speaking to my contact in the ISPR, I could hear in the back ground, some media persons being requested to omit the word "buried" while reporting and asked to use the term "trapped" instead.
In the hearts of heart, there is still a glimmer of hope.

It is fair to keep hopes alive, but only up to a point.

It is only a matter of time before the inevitable comes to the fore.

We all should prepare for the worst, no matter what words are being used at the moment.

Salute to our soldiers who laid their lives for our safety and security while performing sacred duties of defending their motherland on the world's highest war zone "Siachen".

U never know and u can never say, life and death are controlled by the one and one only. I dont remember the complete narrative, but once a Prophet was asked by Allah to crack a rock, which he had thoroughly examined and could find no opening in the rock. Once he cracked the rock, he found a worm in there eating a piece of grape. So the pt is that If Allah wants some one alive, no matter what happens how it does, no thousand tons of snow will be able to do the person any harm. And if he had decided that their time is up, then it is up.

This kind of statments does not reflect situation ground and thats the fact. These kind of statments are only good for emotional consumption but reality is too harsh and different.

Mnay pictures have been posted by members on this thread..Thanks to the memebrs who are keeping us updated..
I noticed something peculiar in some of the pics...Have a look..

Look at the shape of Glacier in this Picture.

Now crop the Glacier and zoom in..and notice the Dam shaped structure? It looks alike an ice dam with Walls holding back the ice?
The top section is very steep at probably 70' angle then its almost flat at 20' angle an dthe bottom long tongue of the Glacier is at about 50' angle..and notice the Dark grey walls of the Ice dam??

Now same structure at a different angle.

Notice the very wide but nearly verticle Walls of ice and the "Ice lake" behind it?

Now look at this Picture..The whole of the ice dam and Much of the glacier tongue is missing?

Usama.

Earthquake is a different scenario. There are air gaps and insulation against heat and cold, both. But in this case, there aren't any air gaps and there is no insulation from a temperature of near minus sixty degree centigrade.

Safriz.

Really appreciated, well analysed. Another possibility to link with your post is, as the volume of ice increases for several reasons, the 'dam' could weaken and no longer take the pressure giving away it's strength. But for over twenty years, such incident didn't happen. Surely the PA engineers and geologists must have noticed if it were something like that.
