Look at India at third position as opposed to Pakistan sandwiched between Norway and Switzerland.

Me and my family love India and everything we have read and watched on TV about India, I just wanted to post this thread as I find it quite disgusting that this is happening in the 21st century in a civilized country like India.

Now I do know India is vast, huge and massive and at first I thought this was only done by the poor, the uneducated etc, but the more I looked into this the more I found out that it is being condoned, and done by middle class families, doctors, educated and the rich and powerful of Indian society.

I just found the show I was talking about this is an eye opener.

Female Foeticide
Episode 01: Daughters Are Precious

In this episode Aamir talks about the killing of unborn girls, or female foeticide, an alarming and frightening reality. It involves the collusion of families, doctors and a social structure that encourages the desire for a boy child - at any cost. The result has been the death of over 3 crore unborn girls since independence and a generation of young men, many amongst whom will find it very tough to get a life partner.

Yeah you are right, Chart does not have the right official numbers and it is Pakistan that needs to be there at the 3rd position.

He spoke about it on National television and lots of others are working on ground level against this disease.. It exists no body is denying it but it is existing all over Asia and many countries are much ahead of India..

As a father of two beautiful daughters and a son this badly affected me and my wife, it's very sad that this is condoned in society.

I hope this is given a big run on Indian news etc and the people of India put their foot down and say enough is enough, I don't say this with hate in my heart, I am just reeling from reading and hearing about this.

My wife and I cried watching this, it just shocked us to the core, I don't think the majority of Indians actually care or are shocked, I know watching the show a lot of the audience were crying and genuinely disgusted and shocked, but not sure about the politicians, police and the rest of Indian society.

Fertility rates are declining, and the baby girls are paying the heaviest price in the rapidly unfolding tragedy of female genocide. This is particularly true for the most populous Asian nations of India and China, with the pressure to have small families combined with the ancient preference for male children. Add to that the widespread availability and affordability of ultrasound scan technology used to determine fetus gender, and you see all of the ingredients of a "gendercide" that, according to the Economist magazine, is responsible for 100 million missing baby girls in the world today.

Here's how the Economist magazine puts the issue of "gendercide": "For millions of couples, the answer is: abort the daughter, try for a son. In China and northern India more than 120 boys are being born for every 100 girls. Nature dictates that slightly more males are born than females to offset boys’ greater susceptibility to infant disease. But nothing on this scale". It is estimated that at least 50 million Indian girls have been aborted in recent years, partly contributing to the decline in India's fertility rate from 3.11 to 2.81 children per woman in the last decade. China's TFR has actually increase slightly from 1.70 to 1.73 during the same period. To put it in perspective, the world average TFR declined from 2.65 to 2.55 children per woman from 2000 to 2009.

Haq's Musings: Girl Feticide in Chinindia Cuts Population Growth

According to the news article posted by Indian member Jbond197
10 million girls have been killed in last 2 decade.

So the Indian parents are killing average of 500,000 girls each year.
(I know some Indian member will tell comparing to Indian population it's not a huge number lol)

Data from Pakistan is useless, you guys haven't had a census in 15 years, where is this data coming from:cheesy:

Don't conduct a census for 20 years, use old/extrapolated data, brag about it on PDF.

As per the last census, there gender ratio is - 108.5/100 Female/Male. This data is published in Pakistani govt sites

India's ratio is 107/100.

The chart needs correction. I guess when people were dealing with Mamoths like India and China, they did mistake for tiny Pakistan..

Idiot, before laughing did you take a look at Chinese numbers? Let's see how many Tamil girls have brave Singhalese have killed?

why should I look at Chinese numbers? This thread is about India.

Of course if you want then check, you won't see such a huge numbers in millions. XD

No wonder there are gay Indian men on the rise..because there's a shortage of women.

Yes there are articles that can be easily searched saying North Indian men are having trouble finding wives because of shortage of girls. They have to import girls from South India because South Indians rarely kill female infants.

Thats the thing, there last census was conducted in 1998! Not just this data, any population related data that comes out of Pakistan is not reliable.

Both good and bad of course.

If you understood the conservative Islamic society of Pakistan, you would know that many men don't mention how many females they have in the family to strangers. There was a report on this. Also its forbidden in Islam to kill female infants, Arabs used to this before Islam was revealed to them and our Prophet stopped it.

Abortion rate in Pakistan and India are almost the same. Islam teaches a lot of things, but Muslims don't follow it.

Abortion rates are quite high, 29 per 1,000 women (2002), especially in the more rural provinces of Khyber Pachtunwalia Province and Balochistan (where unmet need is high).
Thats an abortion rate of 2.9%.
