Nawaz going to Saudi Arabia before taking oath

If NS takes a begging bowl to KSA. Don't you think that will increase the influence of Wahabiism in Pakistan ?
Indeed it remains a threat, but dont forget that NS has family relationships with Saudi Royal family (One of his niece is married to Saudi prince) so lets see how he makes one way trade. I suppose he should also reach out to Turkey and Iran and grab whatever he can in terms of collaboration energy and infrastructure investment.

Relationship with Iran will be a tough one, I am sure Saudis will woo him away from Iran...and between KSA and Iran, we all know that NS loves the Saudis more.

So Saudis will create hurdles in that regard, strings attached with anything they give, be it oil or hard cash.

Well It depends upon how NS plays his cards. If he deals with Iran and KSA separately, then I guess he can get something out from both. But be mindful that Pak-Iran gas pipeline is still Financially unviable since the trade cannot be funded by any international currency (USD,EUR etc). Plus the bank undertaking settlements can also face a ban from US. Thats why no Chinese and even no Pakistani bank was interested in funding Pak-Iran gas pipeline.

It would be both I think oil plus huge amount of money because to produce electricity we need money to give to companies who are producing it and also to start those plants which are not working for few years now

Nawaz will have to work as a mediator between Saudi Arabia and Iran if he wants to go ahead with gas pipe line thing

That would not be possible he can not make east and west join hands but he can deal with them separately. Yet I was also of the view even before that Pak Iran gas pipeline was more of a political stunt than a concrete reality. If NS is to make that a reality, then he should push US for not opposing the project.

GCC especially Saudi Arabia never liked Zardari led PPP Government in Pakistan due to its Shiet leaning towards Iran. KSA and other GCC countries were waiting for the departure of the Zardari Government and after NS going to be the next PM GCC will open its coffers again for Pakistan. We may also see the policy shift in Iran Pakistan pipeline project and also on Syrian issue.

Can anyone tell whether Pakistan voted for Arab backed UN draft on Syria or abstained?

With Iran i think it will be like those days where there was total silence. The source of this is when there is no PPP. The leaders of both countries won't meet each other and the trade between the countries will just be about the same, having no intention or plan to increase it.

He doesn't have any bargaining tool to push the US in the pipeline issue. All he can do is start talks by putting forward the Saudi government as a helping hand with the US and utilize his personal relations.

Pakistan has no leverage whatsoever on the US or KSA.

You people are asking too from a person of Nawaz's calibre... Pasha was hired by KSA as a security advisor to some prince before even this Govt. was formed. Nawaz is only there to shoo the media.

good move saudis like him will give him free petrol maybe. which will help boost up economy. saudis have been nice to him since before its time to test loyalties.

BUT i doubt he will go to Saudi.

he is a known idiot who jumped for going to invite Indian PM even much before he formed govt.

anyway Saudi visit is bringing more problems for us.
Any such was denied by the spokesman of PML-N.

To an extent they have. Almost all of US's military equipment will pass through Pakistan while evacuation from Afghanistan. Pakistan can grab a good bargain if it tries to play this card smartly. But don't get carried away if US is not willing to make a bargain.

That bargaining chip was sold off after the Salala incident. We can't do this again...the supply routes were guaranteed after the Salala incident and we can't afford to take the wrath of US again. The previous government and Army gave alot of assurances to the US.
