Should be ordered as a replacement of IL-38.

Finally sense prevails.

It's raining deals for France:

AREVA
Rafale
A330 (for DRDO's AWACs)
C-295
A330 MRTT (should be signed shortly)

If Make in India is set aside, C-27J Spartan will be a better choice in terms of range and performance. Also, India operates C-130 so some commonality in spares as well.
Performance

  • Maximum speed: 602 km/h (374 mph; 325 kn)
  • Cruising speed: 583 km/h (362 mph; 315 kn)
  • Minimum control speed: 194 km/h; 121 mph (105 kn)
  • Range: 1,852 km (1,151 mi; 1,000 nmi) with 10,000 kilograms (22,000 lb) payload
  • Range at 6,000 kg payload: 4,260 km (2,650 mi; 2,300 nmi)
  • Ferry range: 5,926 km (3,682 mi; 3,200 nmi)
  • Service ceiling: 9,144 m (30,000 ft)
vs C-295s,
Performance

  • Maximum speed: 576 km/h (311 knots, 358 mph)
  • Cruise speed: 480 km/h (260 knots, 300 mph)

C-27 spartan cost 53 Million $.

C-295 cost 28 Million $.

Performance of both is almost similar. Better still C-295 is going to be MADE IN INDIA.

I fail to see how C-27 is better.

don't forget Scorpenes, where additional subs are likely...and P-75I too where it might win again

I was merely talking about performance, nothing wrong in promoting your own product :usflag:. Also, your country is very big so C-295 will be short legged for that. If you keep your all threats in mind then, C-295 will not be good in all aspects.

Yup Hollande must be one happy President!
& perhaps India is making a statement that it will always show its gratitude to rough weather friends.
Also if the order is placed to Airbus-Tata consortium, the government has broken 3 critical deadlocks (Rafale, AWACS platform and C-295). Good going indeed.

I do not think it will be used to move vehicles. It is more like a replacement for the An-32 which was cheap and can brought in large numbers. India had 125 of them. Most are scheduled to retire in the coming decades.

Cost is a VERY important consideration in this.

Besides C-295 can carry 71 troops as compared to C-27 which carry 60.

You don't know things, it would appear.

LCA's project manager was congress gov't.

Yes I would agree with you.

See how tejas has been doing since a better project manager appeared on the scene. Get the drift ?

You're preaching to the converted. :enjoy:

In all cases I would like to see LCA assisting MKI and Rafales and putting a strongest defence!

LCA is already Inducted into the Air Force. Its IOC is already done. FOC will happen in the next few months and it will be the most stringent FOC any modern aircraft has gone through. Even the F-35 is not cleared to fire its gun, but is still flying with the US AF.

You know nothing of Project management so its foolish to comment on things you barely comprehend.
:-) What is the estimation and what is the actual cost in purely project management perspective!

Remember you are speaking with an Indian here!

Well C-295s are meant to replace old Avros. For transportation of vehicles etc we will have plenty of C-17s, IL-76s, MTAs, Super Hercules etc.
For strategic transport: C-17, IL-76
For Medium transport: MTA(20 tons), SH(20 tons)
For light transport: C-295(10 tons).

Your question does not even make sense. What do you mean "actual cost"? as opposed to what ?

Your claimed nationality has nothing to do with this. Facts remain facts irrespective of your claims.

Gotta love the Indian Americans that refer to India as 'their country'. :)

Should be ordered as a replacement of IL-38.

Il-38's have been upgraded to the Sea Dragon (SD) Standard - Don't think they will be phased out anytime soon.

When is the next DAC...??

End of this month.

Alenia Aermarchi decided not to contest the Indian MTA requirement / Avro replacement citing that the C-27J Spartan transport aircraft was too advanced for the basic requirements of the Indian Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) programme though it could be viewed in the context of the continued fallout from the AW101 VIP helicopter contract, which was cancelled in early 2014 following allegations of corruption. (Alenia Aermacchi's parent company is Finmeccanica) - The Indian government had also imposed a "partial ban" on Finmeccanica and its subsidiaries after the AW101 scandal.

It is likely to be used as "communications aircraft" only, an air taxi that flies senior officers around the country - like the Avros. An-32's are to be replace by UAC/HAL MTA's.
