What's new

Afghanistan's female TV presenters must cover their faces, say Taliban

These women should be grateful they’re even allowed to come on tv. For fux sake, it’s the taliban. They used to not even let women leave the house.
Most women are still not allowed to leave the house

Taliban is literally just turning Pashtun culture into written policy, that's literally it.

I dont regard highly group of Muslims who can wage war to other Muslim group just because the difference in interpretation of Islam.
Depends on how drastic the difference is, some people change their interpretation to allow transgenderism, LGBT, hijab not being mandatory.

They normalise sins. In this case something like this should be stopped.

No sane Muslim will allow LGBT, Hijab is mandatory for adult women but government should not impose it to women, the same like it is obligated for men and women adult to pray but government cannot punish Muslim who dont pray

Government can only intervene for public domain like in economic sector, Halal regulation, marriage, Hajj, and set up criminal law since Quran stated punishment on Earth for man/woman who do Zinah, who kill other person without Haq, who steal other people properties

Our God is Allah, not government

It’s always people who don’t have to face the reality of locals who ask for hardline laws. These people should be wary of the punishment of the munafiq as is mentioned in the Quran and the Hadith.

QURAN, AS-SAF VERSE 2-3

O believers! Why do you say what you do not do?

How despicable it is in the sight of Allah that you say what you do not do!

Rasulullah Muhammad SAW said, "Indeed, religion is easy. And, forever religion will not burden a person but make it easier. Therefore, straighten, approach, and give good news! Ask for your help in the early morning, during the day when it is time to rest, and the beginning of the night "(HR Bukhari-Muslim).

In Taliban world, nothing appears anymore in women body, not even women face

Quran, An Nur verse 31

And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their chastity, and not to reveal their adornments1 except what normally appears.2

Quran Al Hajj verse : 78

Strive for ˹the cause of˺ Allah in the way He deserves, for ˹it is˺ He ˹Who˺ has chosen you, and laid upon you no hardship in the religion—the way of your forefather Abraham. ˹It is Allah˺ Who named you ‘the ones who submit’1 ˹in the˺ earlier ˹Scriptures˺ and in this ˹Quran˺, so that the Messenger may be a witness over you, and that you may be witnesses over humanity. So establish prayer, pay alms-tax, and hold fast to Allah. He ˹alone˺ is your Guardian. What an excellent Guardian, and what an excellent Helper!

I'm agreeing with you about the government regulation being minimal and allowing personal freedom.

(For context you should see the message I replied to.)

But I am also saying there is a tiny minority out there who genuinely preach that LGBT is permissible and the hijab is not mandatory at all. Stuff like this should be completely destroyed.

So a woman should cover lest the men have lustful ideas
What about young boys, should they cover up as well lest the mature men have lustful ideas

In these savage societies this is a justifiable outlet for sexual frustrations, that and animals.

Afghanistan is a free country, there country their law.
Respect them.
You have a very expansive concept of the meaning of "free" and "there" [sic]. Unless, of course, you only respect the Mullahs.

I don't understand though, why little boys? Like not even a female, a whole male 💀

Easier access. Repressing sexual desire can make bring out homosexuality in men who already are inclined towards it, like a forced coming out of the closet.

Also they get a thrill out of attacking the weakest in society that is why women are guarded in religion to the point they can't even look at them. Children and animals are what's left so they go after them.

That's why when they go abroad they commit the most perverted sexual crimes because they are free to express their psychopathic desires.

KABUL: Women presenters on Afghanistan's leading TV channels went on air Saturday without covering their faces, defying a Taliban order that they conceal their appearance to comply with the group's austere brand of Islam.

Since surging back to power last year the Taliban have imposed a slew of restrictions on civil society, many focused on reining in the rights of women and girls.

Earlier this month Afghanistan's supreme leader issued a diktat for women to cover up fully in public, including their faces, ideally with the traditional burqa.

The feared Ministry for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice ordered women TV presenters to follow suit by Saturday.

Previously they had only been required to wear a headscarf.

However, broadcasters TOLOnews, Shamshad TV and 1TV all aired live programmes Saturday with women presenters' faces on show.

"Our female colleagues are concerned that if they cover their faces, the next thing they will be told is to stop working," said Shamshad TV head of news Abid Ehsas.

"This is the reason they have not observed the order so far," he told AFP.

Mohammad Sadeq Akif Mohajir, spokesman for the vice ministry, said the women were violating the Taliban directive.
"If they don't comply we will talk to the managers and guardians of the presenters," he told AFP.

"Anyone who lives under a particular system and government has to obey the laws and orders of that system, so they must implement the order," he said.

The Taliban have demanded that women government employees be fired if they fail to follow the new dress code.
Men working in government also risk suspension if their wives or daughters fail to comply.

Mohajir said media managers and the male guardians of defiant women presenters would also be liable for penalties if the order was not observed.

The Taliban previously promised a softer version of the rule that characterised their first stint in power from 1996 to 2001.

During two decades of US-led military intervention in Afghanistan, women and girls made marginal gains in the deeply patriarchal nation.

But since August women have already been banned from travelling alone and teenage girls barred from secondary schools.

In the 20 years after the Taliban were ousted from office many women in the conservative countryside continued to wear a burqa.

However, most Afghan women, including TV presenters, opted for the Islamic headscarf.

Television channels have already stopped showing dramas and soap operas featuring women, following orders from Taliban authorities.
