JS panel backs 2 AHN routes amid dissent
Bdnews24.com . Dhaka

A parliamentary watchdog has finally given backing to two of the proposed routes for the Asian Highway Network through Bangladesh, amid continued opposition from the BNP.
The parliamentary standing committee on communications suggested Wednesday that the government should select one of the two routes, which will enter from India and re-enter into India, for Bangladesh痴 AHN link.
Nazrul Islam Manju, the lone BNP MP of the 10-member parliamentary panel, gave note of dissent on the recommendations terming it 疎gainst national interests・
Instead, he stressed that the highway should cross Bangladesh and exit through Myanmar via its Teknaf point.
糎e have recommended choosing Benapole-Dhaka-Tamabil or Banglabandha-Hatikumrul-Dhaka-Tamabil routes for the Asian Highway,・Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the standing committee chairman, told journalists after the meeting at parliament building.
He said the parliamentary panel suggested the routes considering Bangladesh痴 weight of bilateral trade with India.
選 have given note of dissent on the recommendations as the two routes do not meet the ESCAP criteria for the Asian Highway,・Nazrul Islam Manju told bdnewsw24.com after the meeting.
禅he recommendations are against national interests,・he said.
Manju said as per the ESCAP conditions the highway should connect a capital with another, but none of the two routes would connect Bangladesh with the Indian capital.
Besides, the highway should also connect ports, railway links and have trade and tourism activities.
選f it passes through Tamabil, a hilly region, it will not meet the ESCAP criteria,・said Manju.
糎e are going to construct deep sea port in Kutubdia (Chittagong). If the AHN bypasses Chittagong, it will not bring any benefit to the nation・
The BNP MP said he told the meeting that the government must hold discussion in parliament to decide the routes for securing national interests.
The Ruling Awami League and the BNP are sharply divided over the selection of the routes of the Asian Highway which will ultimately connect Asia with Europe.
The Awami League says the highway should come from India and re-enter into India痴 north-eastern states bordering Bangladesh. But the BNP said the highway must enter Myanmar via Bangladesh with ultimate target of reaching China through the former Burma.
The BNP and its allies say, if the highway passes from and back through India instead of Myanmar, it will make Bangladesh too dependent on India with regard to the international road network.
The opposition says the government wants to give India transit facilities, a very politically sensitive issue in Bangladesh, in the name of the Asian Highway.
Some ministers of the Awami League talked in favour of giving India transit facilities, but they were highly criticised for their stance on the issue.
The BNP earlier warned that it would launch mass movement if the government gave transit facilities to India.

For god's sake, its a road. You can probably make millions by taxing the Indians who pass through.

The above news shows AL of Bangladesh will not change its sell out policy. Any govt in any country gives first preference to the country's own interest. But, the above decision to award a transit to India at the cost of our own shows an ulterior motive of AL, it cannot be accepted.

A political party wishes to be elected many times and works to achieve that goal. But, BD AL thinks that if it is elected but cannot work to safeguard India's intertest, then what is the use of being re-elected. A 400-km detour through Tamabil will make our goods very expensive in the SE asian market and China. On the other hand, in the name of AH, India will have a direct transit through BD to its NE without paying even a fee.

People of BD elect a Party to govern BD, but all the Parties seem to appease India this way or that way. However, whatever may be the pro-India role when in power, the opposition political group should put a very strong resistance to the mean politics of AL this time.

Well then its for you people to decide... whether you should go through Myanmar or through India.....:hitwall:...whats Pakistan forum going to do about it....

why indians are freaking out here. Don't they were claiming india dont need Bangladesh and racing to manufacture stories about migration?
Look it didn't take blink for indians to make 180 degree and trying make case for another twisted bs and case for stooge awami regime.

indians are pathological liar and loosers group of people.

Here we go again...blaming India for your non performance.....:chilli:...

In each and every posts and thread you mention your government as indian stooges , now think again and see who are the bigger losers:hang2::rofl:

Exposing wrongdoing of a regime specially when its against interest of the country and against people is rather patriotic.

Losers are who interfere in other country internal affairs and constantly on toe with fear of exposure. As you losers and pathological liar from india are doing.

there are some issues that needs to be cleared up from our side.
Border security and also we want transit facilities to Nepal and Bhutan in exchange for giving such to India.

This is blown out of proportion.BD and India have more serious issues between them.

Yes, indeed. But as we all informed Badeshis know the likes of Indians, they only like to take but don't want to give in return.

Frankly I agree with you 200 percents on this one. We can not blame bharat for every little things that happen in BD because ultimately blame on us for letting these sold out low life politicians running the country. We have party that bow to bharati interest instead of ours. People of BD must take the matter in their own hand and cut the throat of all hereditary dalal regarless of their political affiliation. Bangladesis must not turn blind eye on present hereditary dalal government that all out to sell our precious sovereignty. Revolution must be coming back becasue Awami munafiq lost their left over bone sucking worthless brain.

Bangali Moshai...:azn:.its you who have to fight for your country...no one from PDF is going to do it for you....:coffee:.

Why the hell are you here than?

I don't want any Transit to other Nations from India. Once we say Yes, we will flooded with BD Trollers discussing anti-India. It's better to stick with BD troller as of now.

First of all they blame everything on India. They call their govt. as dalal of India. But they do not know that they only elected them in the parliament. They could have choose some good independent. If there was no independent, then they should enter politics. You can just shout and can do nothing.

I can not agree more with you. As much as I am oppose indian foreign policy towards bangladesh, i am also proud of of india's
achievement as well.

One of the finest person in south asia is now the prime minister in india where the President of Pakistan is the biggest thief of South Asia
and bd prime minister is the biggest lier in the country not to metion the biggest extornanist.

Indian cabinet minister are one of the finest in South asia.

Again, I am proud of indian achievement in its own, but hate its foreign policy towards other SA countries.

Not BD, but the landlock Nepal and Bhutan are benefitted by a transit thru India to BD, so they should talk to India. India is benefitted by a transit to its NE and to Burma. But, does BD really need any transit thru India?

Yes, we need a few. NE/Burma transits can be reciprocated only if India allows transit thru its land to China and Pakistan. Has anybody heard BD govt has placed this kind demands to its big neighbour?

BD tried to get the transit to even its own people with the 3 bigha corridor. India signed the treaty and than made a case in the high court for last 17 years and that is still there.

Will you believe a neighbor like that ? I would rather shake hand with the devil.
