Avalanche traps about 150 Pakistani soldiers

pakistan should bring maps and do proper demarcation and should accept present positions.
since it will be no man's land,so no body will occupy it later on.

Chief Kiyani continue to disappoint us, he has failed to save 124 soldiers trapped in Avalanches, he came too late and simple discussion with rescue teams and shook hands. Tmw, he will go home.

What could Kiyani do in this unfortunate incident?

Time to bring down forces from the top of the hell .....

Rescuers may take days to reach trapped men

ISLAMABAD, April 9: It may take days before rescuers reach the 139 men trapped in a military complex buried under about 80 feet of snow, mud and rocks, in Gyari (Siachen), army officials said on Monday, as rescue teams dug two tunnels to reach them and international experts started reaching in Islamabad to assist them.

Bad weather was impeding the progress of the operation which started on Saturday morning soon after a massive avalanche had covered army’s battalion headquarters situated in a valley at the mouth of the region described as the world’s highest battlefield. The operation is said to have also been constrained by capacity issues because neither the army nor the civilian authorities were prepared to deal with such a disaster.

Met department’s forecast of more snow for the region in coming days meant more problems for the rescue work.

The rescue operation continued to build over the last couple of days and on Monday the army said it had fully deployed the available capacity to search and extract the trapped persons, who are mostly army regulars from 6th Northern Light Infantry.

The military is being supported by the National Disaster Management Authority and Gilgit-Baltistan’s Public Works Department.

About 240 rescuers, including engineers, aided by heavy machinery and sniffing are engaged in the operation.

By Monday evening they had dug two forty feet long and thirty feet wide tunnels that were so far only about 15 feet deep.

While hopes of finding any survivors are dwindling fast, the rescue effort is being joined by international teams of experts in high altitude disaster management.

A team of US military has already reached Islamabad from Afghanistan and held long discussions with Pakistani officials on the details of the operation as it awaited for flight to the site of the operation, which got delayed because of bad weather.

The team, a US source claimed, was sent on Pakistan’s request for help. Meanwhile, a Pakistani participant of the discussions said the US team had limited capacity to help. “As I understand they can only go up to 10 metres deep, while the buried complex is about 20 metres down,” he noted. Rescue specialists from Switzerland and Germany were expected to reach here on Tuesday morning. Offers for help have also come from the UK and Austria, the Foreign Office said.

Farman Ali adds from Skardu: In an outpouring of solidarity in Baltistan for the trapped men, various social organisations have offered services for the rescue efforts.

According to initial details, 30 trapped men belonged to Azad Kashmir and 24 to Skardu district. Others included Ghanche (8), Ghizer (12), Chitral (3), Diamer (8), Astore (6), Gilgit (6), Hunza (1) and four from Sindh.

Details about the rest are being ascertained.

hmm hopes are getting lost by looking on the speed of work going on need more force any one the cause of Avalanche yet determined or not :undecided:

Kayani has done worse things than show up late at the avalanche site, I'm willing to let it go - it does seem there wouldn't have been anything remarkable for him to do anyway.

Now its all up to Zardari (oh God...) and Manmohan Singh.

sorry ANTIBODY, if you think post is not necessary, please delete it. However, you know what i am saying correctly.

It is just they especially Kiyani continue to fail us despite past incidents last year. That's simple word I can say. Our response by diggingheavy equipments and Hitachi machines are hilarious, it will take process too slow.

Anyway, 124 soldiers unfortunately are huge numbers we lost, I am hoping other different stations near mountains must do something before trapping themselves again, did they?

These the latest (last) pictures of Maj Zaka while he was at Goma Mess, Siachen:

May Allah bless these brave men, I dont know how we can repay them for their bravery. And thank you Sir for your service. For your hard work and for your dedication. I see many a people who come here and talk ill of the Army. Yes they may have their flaws, so do you and so do I. Are we all not humans. Did out father Prophet Adamn not make a mistake. But it pains me to read our Pakistani brothers writing that the army gets paid for doing this. I ask u, will u go sit in a condition like this for even if some one paid u a million dollars. When u know that you can die at any moment.

Once Again I pray to Allah that may he bless us all with his mercy, and above all may he keep these brave men under his protection. Give their families strength to coupe with the tragedy.
