The joint exercise between Bangladesh Army and US Pacific Army Command (USARPAC) titled ‘Exercise Tiger Lightning-4’ was formally inaugurated at Bangladesh Institute of Peace Support Operation Training (BIPSOT) in Rajendrapur Cantonment on Sunday.

BIPSOT Commandant Major General ASM Ridwanur Rahman inaugurated the exercise as the chief guest.

However, the preparation phase of ‘Exercise Tiger Lightning-4’ started on February 26, 2023, the main activities of which started on Sunday with the opening ceremony.

Addressing on the occasion, BIPSOT Commandant Major General ASM Ridwanur Rahman said Exercise Tiger Lightning will contribute effectively to strengthening the existing relationship between the Bangladesh Army and the United States Army.

The Bangladesh Armed Forces have a rich history of conducting successful operations in hostile environments of United Nations peacekeeping missions. On the other hand, the US Armed Forces have extensive experience in operating successfully around the world in various security situations. In this case, the armies of both countries will be benefited by exchanging experiences with each other, he also said.

Brigadier General Gregory Thomas Day, Land Component Commander, Oregon National Guard, on behalf of the USARPAC, addressed the programme as the special guest.

A total of 72 soldiers of USARPAC participated in the exercise along with Bangladesh Army.

The Bangladesh Army and the US Pacific Army Command (USARPAC) jointly organised the bilateral exercise.

The exercise is designed to make the participants proficient in proper assessment of hostile security environment, effective planning and taking electronic measures to meet challenging challenges.

Apart from this, the exercise also involves exchange of knowledge and experience between the experts of both countries on Combat Life Saving, Mine Resistance Ambush Protected (MRAP) Vehicles, Counter Improvised Explosive Devices (C-IED), Cordon and Search Operations and setup check posts and operation.

Good to see BA, US Army and terrorists operate the same Chinese rifle system.
In this age of globalisation, interoperability is vital for success of multinational operations - you never know which side you will be on and who will be your ally.

You guys may have taken my post too seriously - it was satirical.

I was mocking US corruption (selling out to Military Industrial Complex) and hypocrisy on foreign policy matters.
For example - the US occupied Afghanistan for two decades under the pretext of fighting Al-Qaeda while simultaneously arming AQ-afilliated Al-Nusra Front in Syria and labelling them "moderate rebels".
The Americans carrying the same rifle as terrorists during Tiger Lightning is an unintended, ironic representation of US Foreign Policy.

Can someone tell us if one UN Lady Officer is holding a kind of electronic gadget that exposes the presence of hidden weapons?

There is another photograph that shows a UN male soldier searching for something in the pocket of rival personnel. See the photograph below.

What really is this?

Fun fact: Norinco is banned from exporting guns to the US because in the late nineties , Norinco was caught selling weapons directly to various criminal entities/gangs. original Chinese guns (pre-ban era) are sought after in US markets. Maybe BOF can send some samples to the US to see how well they can do ?
Norinco is not banned in Canada though.
SVDs , Type-81s are scarce.

Otoh , it is kind of sad how our standard issue rifles (BD-08/type-81) have no optical sights. It is a must in Modern warfare...

It is a sewing needle scanner. By scanning citizens, the device can measure how much the country has industrialised. If you scan Chinese or Japanese nationals, the machine beeps the loudest.
When it scans BAL fanboys, the scanner melts down.

Ok seriously, it is just a metal detector.

BOF produces under license from Norinco. The trick would not work.

Yet we keep raising more army units while existing units are ill-equipped.:smart:

Putting aside equipment, look at the difference in training standards made evident by contrasting trigger discipline.
Investing in soldering is time consuming and expensive. We are nowhere near global standards.

So, when BD companies will start to learn the knowledge of producing sewing needles? It is already over 70 years since 1947.

Probably never. Needle-making is quite high tech - BD will never beat China or India in price + quality due to lack of economies of scale.

You seem to know the difficulties to produce the alloy to make sewing needles. A country needs many years of precise experiments on metal alloys.

Well, many in this forum seem to think that producing sewing needles is as easy as producing matchsticks.

I think people just ridicule the idea of Bd producing needles. While being high tech and capital intensive due to metallurgical reasons, sewing needles have small profit margins thanks to Chinese efficiency. China manufactures sewing needles at global scale hence can make good profit.
Bd would be investing big yet losing money In the face of cheap Chinese imports.

A country like BD with limited resources and low skill labour force should focus on products that we can compete in using cheap labour despite low labour productivity.

Manufacturing appliances, automobles, ships, aircraft, steel, etc. can secure well paying jobs for many people.
