Lockdown measures have worked and BD was able to stabilise at last the rise of the Indian Delta variant without closing down critical factories like garments.

Unlike India and now Indonesia, BD was able to take the necessary actions to just about keep the lid on the virus and not having masses of people die for lack of medical facilities.

On the vaccine front, the highly effective Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are being given in mass now. The less effective Chinese Sinopharm vaccine is providing extra support in the campaign. Millions of AstraZeneca doses will arrive this month from Japan and Covax to both give the 2nd dose to 1.5 million and also double jab another 1-1.5 million of the vulnerable.

With some lockdowns on and off till October this year, BD should be able to keep the virus within the limits of the capacity of the health system to cope and be pretty much out of this pandemic by October due to immunity from vaccines and natural immunity of those who caught and recovered from the virus.

Hopefully this current 9-day semi-lifting of restrictions does not make things much worse before another 2 week lockdown comes into force on Saturday 00:00hrs to try to drive down the infection rate from its current high rate.

It's too early to say BD stopped anything. It will spike back up during this Eid break and halt to lockdown.

May Allah protect everyone.

You missed the point and that was BD can halt the rise of the virus when it locks down. A lot of people thought BD could not do this and have been proved wrong.

Yes the 9 day easing will cause cases to go back up but we are yet to see any evidence after 5 days and so hopefully it is a mild increase.

With BD back in lockdown from Saturday the virus spread will again be halted and maybe brought down somewhat.

good job, nowadays bangladesh is beating supa powa on everything
Its good that BD has controlled Delta variant of chinese coronavirus.

no, india variant of Indian virus

no, india variant of Indian virus

This is the country that both "gifted" the Delta variant to BD and also illegally and immorally stopped supplying the UK AstraZeneca vaccine, which was licensed to it on the condition it shared with other 3rd world countries like BD.

Actually the turd Modi did BD a great thing as it has undermined the pro-India forces in BD and this means more opportunity for Chinese engagement between BD and China.

India is nothing but pure evil as it would not even supply the 1.5 million 2nd AstraZeneca doses to those in BD that needed it. Without the 2nd dose they are still at risk from the Delta variant.

The figure of deaths is appalling but at least we have not yet seen a surge while the lockdown has been eased. Hopefully it can be kept stable and then the resumed lockdown, with garment factories closed on top, from this Saturday can make major inroads to get the infection levels much lower.

How? Before it was average 40-50 deaths, now we have average 200 deaths. Lock-down was never completely successful, several people died due to lack of ICU and oxygen supplies which is almost exhausted now.

Figures are not reliable..

My sister works as a doctor in Chittagong city and according to her the situation is spiralling out of control..

Based on what she heard from colleagues in Dhaka, the situation is dire..

Other than these big cities, the situation and availability of oxygen is even worse in the other districts.

Far from successfully being beaten, the surge is yet to peak even.

The stabilisation of test positively ratio is not lying.
Virus prevalence has stabilised, although there will be pressure as still lots of new people are being admitted and the BD health system is able to treat nearly everyone that needs it. No one is suffocating to death outside hospitals like we saw in India and are seeing in Indonesia now.

While it is not great now, BD has not ended up like Indonesia with a somewhat collapsed health system and is just about holding the virus at bay.

It should be able to bring the infection rate down when an even stricter lockdown takes effect from Saturday. Yes things are bad but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

While your sister sees the situation is dire in her area and what she hears from Dhaka, remember not all areas are affected the same. My division Sylhet has been relatively lightly affected.

You do realise that sylhet owing to its low population density will always get away with situations like these.. not to mention it's a city smaller than Khulna in terms of population.

Poorer areas and the two metropolises will account for the brunt of the death toll. Nevermind the ones from the far reaches of Bangladesh who aren't even accounted for.

Lockdown isn't doing squat.. nobody is following the health guidelines.. there are literal traffic jams in Chittagong city and from what I can see, the same in Dhaka.

Our people will not abide by the rules, not even when it is to save themselves..

Lots of people from the low income strata are having their lives and furutues permanently ruined.

Many will switch to crime, some will die, some will be scrambling to fill their bellies, many will eventually perish of covid.

Until atleast 40% to 60% of the most vulnerable population range (40 years and beyond) are immunized, the virus cannot and will not be beaten.

And people have died of oxygen shortage in Bangladesh already, dozens in fact..

The health ministry is covering up.. in order to save face and save their inept minister's posterior.

The Eid surge is coming, we can but pray... The stage is set for another steep rise in cases and fatalities.

People such as yourself have been predicting disaster for a year but it has not happened yet.

If you can show pictures of masses of people outside hospitals suffocating to death like what happened in India before and now in Indonesia then I will reasses my views.
Yes some have died due to oxygen shortage but it is the odd case here and there but not in mass numbers.

Lockdown is helping as the data clearly shows unless you have data that the government is not publishing?
No government apart from maybe N Korea can hide massive casualties from the virus of that is what is truly happening in BD right now.

This is all semantics.. 'massive casualties' and what not.. define that for me because that is a very ambiguous term.

We're at what ? 200 deaths per day as per official data..

Now most of these deaths now could've been easily avoided, had it not been for blatant corruption in the health sector, poor oversight and complete ineptitude starting from the very top to the bottom when it comes to procuring vaccines.

Do you think 200 people dying needlessly is a small number ? Are those folks with families, just numbers to you ? People are more than just statistics.

Or do you need pictures of dead bodies to acknowledge that a problem exists ?

Regardless, no point in arguing over something that affects neither of us directly..

But for you to claim that the surge has been beaten is just laughable.

Eid surge is coming whether we like it or not and this governments ineptitude when it comes to managing their resources and battling the outbreak have been exposed for everyone to see.

Lockdown after lockdown, not properly enforced, no relief for the poor, no stimulus for the SMEs, No beds in hospitals, no Oxygen..

The government is not being able to bring the virus under control with their haphazard and quite frankly half-assed lockdowns, all the while pushing the poorest to the brink of extinction..

You don't need to be in Bangladesh to understand the situation on the ground...

People won't die of covid, they'll just die of starvation.

If this government is going to impose more lockdowns on the people, then they better do it right, like a real lockdown is meant to be.. else it's all in vain..
