Sukhoi Su-30MKI -
A total of 272 aircraft on order All aircraft to be upgraded to Super Sukhoi standards and inducted by 2020.

HAL Tejas - 123 LCA (40 x Mk. 1 + 83 x Mk. 1-A) aircraft to be acquired. Final operational certification (FOC) scheduled for early-mid 2017. 2 Mk.1 aircraft inducted; SP-3 ready for induction. Full squadron of 20 Mk.1 aircraft to be introduced by 2018; improved Mk.1-A to be introduced from 2020-21.

Mikoyan MiG-29 - Air defence fighter. Initial B/UB variants have been upgraded to MiG-29UPG standards To be retired by 2030.

Dassault Mirage 2000 - Being upgraded. To be retired by 2030.

SEPECAT Jaguar - Service-life upgrades to be completed by 2020.[14] Also operated in a naval strike role. To be retired by 2030.

Mikoyan MiG-27ML Bahadur - All non-upgraded aircraft to be retired in 2016; remaining aircraft to be retired by 2017-18. To be replaced by HAL Tejas.

Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 - MiG-21MF ("Type 88") and one squadron of upgraded MiG-21 Bisons to be retired by 2017-18. Remaining 132 aircraft to be retired by 2022. To be replaced by the HAL Tejas.

Mig-21 - 132 (wiki bison to be retired and 132 will remain)

Total - 653 (653/20= 32.65 Squadrons)

As per Wikipedia information in 2017-18 all the Mig-21 bisons will retired and other 132 would be retired by the 2022 and;
all Mig-27 would be retired by 2017-18 so all 87 planes will retired.
So totally 113 Mig-21 (245-132) and 87 Mig-27 would be retired by 2017-18. Totally 113+87=200 planes are going to be retired by 2017-18. 10 squadrons reduction.

As all the Mig-29, Jaguars and Mirage-2000 would be retired by 2030. total in number 261.
The other jets could be included by the MOD but its question whether that would enough to raise number cause the more jets go to scrape and less are coming in to inventory. Even if after the newly programme to purchase the 120 small jets (F-16 and Gripen) and than after the MOD is going to pronounce new competition in the Medium category like Rafale jets their would be hardly increase of 100 like plane considering cost so not more increase than 5 squadrons. so 33 squadrons would be their not enough for airforce, and need to increase up to 42 squadrons. if it presumed to be need of 9 squadrons with 20 plane each of AMCA the production must start earlier so till 2030 the 180 planes can be built, or would need to order new purchase.

IAF dont have 261 jaguars as stated in this article , get your fact straight , apart from this only 60 odd darin 3 jaguar will be operable in 2020 rest will be retired.

Dude 261 is for total mirage-2000, mig-29, and jaguars not only Jags. source plz that jags gonna retired.

India order 322 MKI
 
Im not convinced about IAF ordering 322 mki ..... I think it stops at 272 in 2019/2020

I'm also certain IAF will not get to 42 sqds either ... simply more fighters will retire like 21/27/29 & jaguars far quicker than their replacements ie Rafale Tejas & F16/70s

My guess IAF will lose over 450 fighters in 21/27/29 & jags between today 2030

The replacements will be less than 300 Rafale F16/70 and Tejas
