Indian author Sushmita Banerjee shot dead in Afghanistan

:))))) I read. its you who claimed she escaped from Taliban whereas her own claims in the story contradict her.

So the onus is on you please post information how she escaped and whom escaped from ;) ????

so you believe that an angel can tweet the word of god?

From BBC -

She wrote that "life was tolerable until the Taliban crackdown in 1993" when the militants ordered her to close a dispensary she was running from her house and "branded me a woman of poor morals".

She wrote that she escaped "sometime in early 1994", but her brothers-in-law tracked her down in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, where she had arrived to seek assistance from the Indian embassy. They took her back to Afghanistan.

"They promised to send me back to India. But they did not keep their promise. Instead, they kept me under house arrest and branded me an immoral woman. The Taliban threatened to teach me a lesson. I knew I had to escape," she wrote.

It was shortly after that, she wrote, that she tried to escape from her husband's home, three hours from the capital, Kabul.

"One night, I made a tunnel through the mud walls of the house and fled. Close to Kabul, I was arrested. A 15-member group of the Taliban interrogated me. Many of them said that since I had fled my husband's home, I should be executed. However, I was able to convince them that since I was an Indian, I had every right to go back to my country," Ms Banerjee wrote.

"The interrogation continued through the night. The next morning, I was taken to the Indian embassy from where I was given a safe passage. Back in Calcutta, I was re-united with my husband. I don't think he will ever be able to go back to his family."

The Taliban Tattoo | Sushmita Banerjee

1. She was NOT a doctor

2. She was running an illegal dispensary playing with lives of people by treating patients when she knew she had NO knowledge NO degree of medical .

3. Read again whom she escaped ? who gave her safe passage ?

I never said she was a doctor. she only helped people by giving them medicines for common ailments which I assume she got from india because of indias genuine concern for afghanis unlike pak which only wants to control the poor muslims there.
If I have a cold I go to the pharmacy to get a coldarin or whatever. And remember she only mentioned common ailments.

She fled her brothers in law and the Taliban were going to execute her but since she was indian they were scared and let her go.

the Durand line is disputed. so its not illegal crossing.

Why should she follow her husband like Mary's little lamb? she was not a muslims woman yet.

So you have still not mentioned what is the lie here?

Well, Afghans living in smaller regions in that country will need some more time to evolve into the peaceful civil social life before they are able to shed the mental scars of Islamist aggressive attitude.

Personally, It was really crazy for her to get married in a hostile place like Afghanistan where Taliban were ruling in those days. After facing so much ordeal and facing domestic violence when she was safe in India, what made her go back? Sad but she was kinda asking for it.

When one lies through teeth the one is expected to pay the price.

Her story is a BIG JOKE probably a BIG lie.

Seems she wanted to cash the lies

If lies deserve this kind of barbaric reaction, then almost no one in the world should be alive. Are you trying to justify some cruel stone age barbarians' act?

They will always find some excuses to justify these barbarians . After all these barbarians are their 'strategic assets' .

Seems like the entire event is turning into a completely new direction. @Sher Malang, do you have any latest updates? Anything on the probe?

what do you mean? Is there a new angle to this tragedy?

Yes. Her in laws had made some self contradicting remarks and the modus operendi is simply do not match with Talibans. Most importantly she blamed her husband to have illicit relationship with the wife of his own dead brother.

Why was'nt her body brought back, it seems they buried her the very day they found it.

In a fresh twist, a friend of murdered author Sushmita Banerjee today claimed the latter was under mental trauma over marital problems and planned to return to India on September 6, but was killed a day before. Ms Banerjee's family said there were "loopholes" in the claims.

Shalini Naskar claimed Ms Banerjee told her over chat through a social networking site that she was "mentally down".

"She was under mental pressure. She wanted to return to India and spend her life here," said Ms Naskar, claiming the author's marriage was going through troubled times.

"As per my daily Facebook chat with her on September 4, she was supposed to come to Kabul on September 5, stay at the residence of the owner of the hospital where she worked and catch a flight to India the next morning," said Ms Naskar.

"She had got a financer in Delhi. She was coming to meet him," she added.

Ms Banerjee's in-laws have said she was beaten up and abducted by Taliban gunmen from her residence in Sharan city of Afghanistan's Paktika province in the wee hours of September 5. Her husband Jaanbaz Khan was also tied up after he protested.

Her bullet-riddled body was found on Thursday morning, and buried hours later.

Ms Naskar said that while she was not in a position to say who murdered her friend, she said the author was "undergoing lot of mental trauma inflicted from her husband Jaanbaz Khan's side".

Stating that Ms Banerjee's relatives and friends in Kolkata wanted a "proper probe" into her death, Ms Naskar said there were lot of unanswered questions.

"Why was she buried before any post-mortem was conducted? The in-laws did not care to inform us that she was being buried. We came to know about this after 48 long hours."

"Our appeal to the government is the body should be brought back here along with Jaanbaz," she said.

Ms Naskar also claimed that Ms Banerjee had got into a relationship and was planning to marry, but the author's relatives ruled out any such possibility.

"We had heard about Shalini only once or twice from my sister-in-law (Sushmita Banerjee). Today, we met her for the first time and we were told all these things. We had no inkling of any marital discord. There are a lot of loopholes in what is being said," Debolina Banerjee, wife of the author's younger brother Gopal, told IANS.

Ms Banerjee defied her family to marry Afghan businessman Jaanbaz, with whom she fell in love with in Kolkata. She stayed for years with him in Afghanistan, before coming back to India.

In 1998, she wrote the bestselling memoir "Kabuliwalar Bangali Bou (A Kabuliwala's Bengali Wife)" offering a vivid description of the suffering of women under the Taliban.

She also described her daring escape from the clutches of militants in the book, which made her a household name in Bengal.

She again returned to Afghanistan in January to be with her husband and also document the lives of Afghan women. She had come for a brief visit to Kolkata in July and stayed at her brother's house before returning to Afghanistan.
