Pakistan has taken on some major areas of the plane - wings, fuselage, horizontal and vertical wings and stabilizers etc. Pretty nice. And he is right, joint ventures are better than "indiginous" projects because they get done quicker and cost less for all parties concerned.

Additionally, financially it makes more sense as one country alone these days would find it difficult to embark on a project of such magnitude. There were also some interesting bits of information on that interview like plans to increase pylons fronm 7 to 9. That plus CFT,multiple rail launchers:flame: and a slightly more powerful engine and JF thunder would be an excellant plane:smitten:.

JF-17 Needs time for such inclusions.

We have to have 150 JFs asap. ....Not multirole but for Interception.

AG variants will follow as the plane evolves. True Multirole JF-17 with a potential cabability of Strike Bomber will come within 5 years time, one expects.

Would you tag JF-17 as a direct equivalent to the JAS-39 Gripen in most terms?

I wonder how good the 2nd batch JF-17s will be in terms of their avionics & ECM/EW in comparison to the systems inside the current set of Rafale and EF...

Baseline capabilities, yes, however I am not sure in terms of the electronic warfare capabilities. Air to Air and Air to surface capabilities, range, payload, engine are pretty similar. DLinking on the Swedish platform will definitely be top-notch given the fact that Swedes have been using DL way before anyone else. The funny thing is that there is not one major category that JF-17 is found to be totally lacking in when compared to most of the existing 4th gen aircraft in the market.

JF-17 is multi-role any which way you look at it once the weapons integration is done (which will be over this year). The entire range of air to surface weaponry developed at AWC would be compatible with the JF-17 (Cluster, anti-runway, dumb and even Precision Guided munitions would be available for the Thunder).

Iam willing to wait!!! But as Blain 2 has pointed outwe are already nearly there.Thunder is already a multirole platform and all necessary weapons would have been integrated on it by the time it is inducted towards the end of the year/next year. We have already seen multiple rail launchers on Thunder, and the chinese have just demonstrated a triple rail launcher on JH7. Ther is good news on the chinese engine and production is due to start by 2010. There is already talk of increasing thrust to 9300 Kg. So all in all we are nearly there.

Dear Araz and Blain2:

JF-17 being used in Bombing Strike Missions! in this decade is a hope which will not get realization.

True that it is a multi role platform capable aircraft but to be one it will require a true Block Upgrade and that will take atleast = 2 - 5 years

Kindly review the statement with the understanding required from people who have indeepth in manufacturing and integration time frame requirements.

Can some one knows about the Radar in JF-17's which arrived on 23rd march last year. Also some other information of these two aircraft.

By far the best picture of JF-17 thus far:

I would put money on it that JF-17 would be MR within the next two years and will have Air to Surface capability fully integrated. This is something that the JF-17s are undergoing currently (it will go on this entire year and then sometime into 09).
