MAR-1 anti-radiation missile (Brazil) - Jane's Air-Launched Weapons

MAR-1 anti-radiation missile (Brazil), Air-to-surface missiles - Direct attack

Type
Medium-range, anti-radiation, surface-to-air missile

Development
In 1997 Brazil initiated a national programme to build an anti-radiation missile for the Brazilian Air Force (FAB). The missile, known as MAR-1 (Missil Anti-Radiacao, anti-radiation missile), is a joint product of Mectron and the Air Force's Aerospace Technical Centre (CTA), both based at São José dos Campos. The weapon that has emerged is one of very few air-launched SEAD (Suppression Of Enemy Air Defences) missiles now available outside US, Russian or European control. Brazil's export of the MAR-1 to Pakistan, where it is being integrated on French-built Mirage III aircraft and the Chinese-designed JF-17 Thunder (FC-1), has given the Pakistan Air Force an entirely new defence suppression capability that can be deployed across multiple platforms. The MAR-1 is designed to attack a range of hostile radars, from high-powered fixed emitters s. uch as early warning or surveillance radars, to the low-power mobile radars of battlefield air defence systems. The missile uses a passive anti-radiation seeker developed independently in Brazil (according to Mectron). The seeker can cue, target and guide the missile without assistance but the MAR-1 can also accept targeting input from the launch aircraft's radar warning receivers or electronic surveillance systems. The missile incorporates some advanced design features, such as the use of carbon fibre materials that reduce its radar cross section. The MAR-1 has several programmable modes of tactical employment and is effective against targets on land or at sea.

MAR-1 being upgraded: Brazilian air force official details missile developments

Brazilian air force official details missile developments

By: Craig Hoyle London

Brazil's air force chief of staff has detailed the service's expectation for fielding new-generation air-launched weapons within the next several years, including beyond visual-range air-to-air and anti-radiation missiles.

Gen Aprigio Eduardo de Moura Azevedo says the Mectron-developed MAR-1 anti-radiation weapon is now involved in final flight tests with a new software update, with the process involving an A-1/AMX strike aircraft. The indigenous missile should enter low-rate production in the third quarter of next year, he told IQPC's International Fighter conference in London on 7 November.

The result of a bilateral project between Mectron and South Africa's Denel, plus the air forces of both nations, the A-Darter beyond visual-range air-to-air missile is in its prototype performance verification phase. Qualification activities are scheduled to occur from the second quarter of 2014, before production and manufacturing baselines are fixed by mid-2015. Production should commence in the third quarter of the same year, he says.

"The product is a good result, but the best is to have the [industrial] capacity," Azevedo says, referring to a national defence strategy which calls for Brazil's development of independent technologies, including through partnership with foreign companies.

Once operational, the A-Darter will arm the Brazilian air force's upgraded Northrop F-5EM/FM fighters (above), operations of which are expected to continue until 2025, and the service's future F-X2 combat aircraft, as well as the South African Air Force's Saab Gripens.

Meanwhile, Azevedo said the air force continues to wait on the outcome of Brazil's long-delayed F-X2 contest, which is considering the Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, Dassault Rafale and Sweden's Gripen NG. The process is now awaiting a decision from President Dilma Roussef, and is "in very good hands", he said. A selection announcement is not anticipated before next year, according to local media reports.

Sorry for the terrible quality...left my camera at home.
Interesting, No SD-10,LS-6, FT-5, KG300G and WDM-07 on display? any specific reason?
P:S are they allowing civilians to see the displays?

Mazloom bunnaney k shauq hai humein:P

They are pointing out that current operational status of JF-17 has only "these" specific weapons. No BVR capability too....Believe it or not:D

On a serious note; If you look at details chart and list of weapons shown, its same as IDEAS'2008.
