Dhaka, Aug 19 (bdnews24.com) -- BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has said the government should step down for their inability to run the country in the past 19 months.

"Their many activities prove they are incapable of running the country," she said at a discussion marking the 30th anniversary of BNP-backed Swechchasebok Dal at Kazi Bashir auditorium on Thursday.

"There are two ways open before them now--either run the country along with the people, including the opposition, or step down for failing."

She alleged the government has so far done nothing for people's development and to resolve their problems, such as maintaining law and order, controlling price hike of commodities and so on.

She also mentioned that the government has failed to resolve gas, power and water crises and traffic jam in the city.

"The government has shut CNG stations for six hours every days because they cannot provide people with gas, upping people's sufferings."

She accused the government of 'trying to make the country dysfunctional as it has failed to run the country'.

Khaleda also criticised the ruling party's repression of the opposition.

BNP secretary general Khandker Delwar Hossain, standing committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and R A Gani, among others, were present.
