Lal Masjid siege — four years on

It was the execution of it..
You dont go and blast away at these people.
It could have been a blockade, cut the water, power.. food off.
How long would they last..

On the grapevine.. it seems the shooting of the SSG commander triggred the endgame, with the troops becoming bloodthirsty.
And Musharraf had no option but to unleash his own commando kind...
after which it was no holds barred.

The place was blockaded for over a week. I believe that is sufficient time. The residents even used that time to their advantage by booby trapping the entire mosque and madrassah. Commandos are not blood-thirsty killing machines this is Pakistan, not post-skynet America(Terminator). Even when the operation was under way, on numerous occasions commandos escorted people from inside who had either been held or had lost the will to fight. If I have any reservation over the operation, it is the General Pardon that was given to those who surrendered. Those bastards later caused us a bag full of problems in the form of the Ghazi Brigade.

Yes, there was no choice left but to attack these fanatics.

BTW, those, especially foreigners here, who complain that Pakistani society is not doing enough against the religious fanatics should study the Lal Masjid crisis carefully. This was just one mosque/madrassah complex. But one alone triggered so much violence once the State did act against them. Not saying the govt. should not have acted against them. Just giving a perspective.
PS. I think the Pakistani media--especially Jang Group/Geo-- bear a lot of blame for the violence related to Lal Masjid. By giving live coverage to the dying Mullah leader of Lal Masjid and others they were made heroes for the Jihadis. Imagine FBI giving live coverage to David Koreish as he was being taken out?

it was really embarassing for the nation as they turned the mosque into a terrorists bunker and the whole world witnessed that drama! In the End how the mulla tried to flee wearing a burqa and that was even more embarrasing for the nation. but they do not feel shame and do not correct themselves!

He claimed that the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) had appeared in his dreams over 35 times and instructed him to fight the GoP and the PA.
Then he tried escaping in Burqa, "Mullah teri azmat koh salam*sarcasm*"

I think notwithstanding how it finally was sorted out, it was an operation that was inevitable.

The whole world was also watching with bated breath and was worried that the fundamentalist may cause more trouble than what they had already orchestrated.

Overall, it was a well executed operation given the most difficult circumstances where the emotions were running high too!

Seems like you don't know any other words than these inane ones that you keep repeating often, I guess its due to the earlier discussed intellectual levels.

Try and stick to the topic, your contribution to most threads is as useful as a two legged horse in a horse race.

refute with arguments kindly...

Inevitable is the word. If you think a place is holy don't make a bunker out of it and don't hold people hostage there. A government is what a government does. By challenging govt writ one challenges govt existence.

BTW I did not now Maulana Abdullah was murdered in 1998. Any idea who and why?

it was quite shocking for every one.

their father abdulla once spoke against Imam Hussain by telling that the war of karbala was not the war of Islam that drew criticism and demos. by shias in islamabad.

while his sons started quoting Hazrat Ali and Imam Hussain. I still remember the youger son of abdulla announced a day before his killing that they were follower of the path of Hussain and his announcement was published in all newspapers.

Invent lies on your contenders and twist their words to slander them??
What does sunni shia has to do in this thread?

This place had a lot of power in its hand since its creation.

Throughout most of its existence, the mosque was often favoured by the city elite, including prime ministers, army chiefs and presidents.

Pakistan's longest-ruling dictator, General Zia-ul-Haq, was said to be very close to the former head of the Lal Masjid, Maulana Abdullah, who was famous for his speeches on jihad (holy war).

This was during the 1980s when the mujahideen's fight against the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan was at its peak, and jihad was seen as an acceptable clarion call in the Muslim world.

Maulana Abdullah was killed by suspected Shia militants who are supported by Iran.

there was an incident in saudi arabia in the 80s when the monarchy was attacked.the attempt was foiled and the assilants took refuge in tje grand mosque of "masjid e haraam" .Aa per islamic tradition no blood should be spilled in masjid e haraam and anybody entering that mosque should be goven refuge... but the saudis damn cared and launched a full fledged armed assault inside the mosque...blood was spilled . the mosque was damaged...but the media was hushed up somehow....
and probably very few of us even know of the incident?
On the other hand Lal masjid was given live coverage and so much coverage that it was embedded in peoples memories.
At times things can go out of hand and people can be stupid....in lal masjid both side were inconsiderate...the mosque management shouldnt have made it an ego problem and shouldnt have let it escalate to an all out military operation and the military shouldnt have listened to demands of swift action coming from foreign masters...if they had done it on their own they had done a much better job.
thanks to the madia coverage the relatives of the dtudents watched their sons marched blind folded and their daughters dragged by soldiers and that only made them angry...
the torrent of suicide bombings which followex the lal masjid kperation is totally to be blamed on news channels. They sowed the seeds of hate and snger in peoples minds by shoing the incident as a football match or something.
WasTHE MEDIA HUSHED UP SAME WAY AS THE SAUDIS DID...THRE HADNT BEEN ANY FOREIGN PRESSURE ON THE ARMY AND THE CAN OF WORMS THAT OPENED LATER SHOULDNT HAVE HAPPENED.

anyone with a mind knows, moreover, you should know whose commandos conducted the operation for their Saudi Baradars..... YES YOU GUESSED IT RIGHT !

instead of asking Media not to show whats going on, try to prevent whats going on....for a better PAKistan...

LAL MASJID Operation was a disaster and has resulted in disastrous consequences for Pakistan

lol. they were not genious and pious. but some made their perfumed graves to fool others.

maulana abdullah in friday serman said karbala war was not the war of islam and kufr and then there were demos in islamabad against him by shias several years before lal masjid operation but interestingly his son claims be the followers of Imam hussain's path a day before his death.

LAL MASJID Operation was a disaster and has resulted in disastrous consequences for Pakistan

Infact the real disaster was inflicted by zia who created a parallel fasadi establishment.

so lal masjid was part of the same disaster and nothing above that. how many km it is away from isi headquarters????? but was alllowed to play for decades.
