NASA finds DNA components in meteorites, says they originated in space

Whoever said that Science was NOT manmade.

But science cant replace religion .....
Science does not tell you to give alms, love your neighbor, help the needy, defend the poor, respect your neighbor and be kind to animals

Exactly. Neither does religion.

This so called behavioral evolution driven by human need to be a part of something bigger than himself is also the behavioral development that defines and differentiates us from lower animals, although you can find many examples of such behavior in the animal kingdom - they dont have religion now, do they?

And which religion does not have the above mentioned virtues ?

So where does this "behavioral development" of yours come in animals .... does not mean they too are guided by some higher being ?

The only down side is this might be seen as proving Scientology right.

Oh Noes! We dont want another episode of Tom Cruise jumping on some talk show host's couch!!!

Pun aside, Scientology is no where near the panspermia theory. C'mon, you cannot compare Thetans in their modified DC-10 space jets with simple molecules hitching a ride on asteroids through out the universe?

What was to be yet another self-help psychoanalysis theory turned out into one of the most ridiculous religions - not that any other religion is sane!

That kind of behavior was NOT defined by religions. It was there for man to incorporate into their faiths.

No. It stems from their need to stay in packs for protection, food, survival etc. So does man's.
Btw, where was God or religions for thousand of years before any of the Abrahamic religions came into being? People lived then in far off places such as the Andes, the Australian wildbush. obscure islands in the pacific but still showed compassion to their pack members. No religion taught them that!

So believing in a theory which borders too science fiction is sane ?

Apparently it is not as science fiction as we think. This will actually be a pretty big deal in the science world if proven conclusively.

Its NOT science fiction. There is evidence to suggest that maybe asteroids carry some simple molecules through space which may be transferred to a planet to "seed" life. But no conclusive evidence. So people dont believe it yet.

You do realize that religions survive by changing and adapting their theology right? As changes and revisions go, this will be a pretty minor one to pull off.

Oh really,,,, every religion true religion has appeared when humanity was at is lowest ebb ...... then how of sudden does man suddenly man get guidance in those times?

The American native Indians, the Australian aborigines all had a religion ..... never heard of the Aboriginal dream time ? Have you never heard of the Native Indian rituals ? Every nation on earth had some form of religion.

I have my reservations about "organized religions".

As for revisions and changes, I still doubt Scientology would try to usurp the panspermia theory if and when it is proven. Lost souls riding space planes to find bodies and a place to live dosent compute with simple molecules being ferried piggyback on asteroids across the galaxy (to keep things within context).

Can DNA strands survive the enormous heat generated during entry into earth's atmosphere? Biology has never been my subject.

It's a good question. I think it depends on the size and the composition of the meteorite. If the evidence here is to be believed, it is possible. The DNA material probably could only be preserved here on earth in places like Antarctica given the prevalence of DNAse in inhabitable environments.
