Featured Pakistan Navy Type 054AP Frigates - Update, News & Discussion

The AESA radar equipped JF-17 Block III is too small to JH-7A.

I disagree. The issue is not the electronics for JF-17.The issue is the range and payload. The JH-7A is far superior in terms of range and ordinance capacity. 4 heavy supersonic AShM and still 2 LRAAM (Pl-15) and 2 High offbore site WVRAAM (PL-10) vs 2 C-802A missiles and 2/2 (LRAAM/WVRAAM)

Suprised why we waited so long to get our first 4 blue water ships
I am not fully convinced to call it F22P + or something wiered it should be called with it's Chinese Designation Type054 works with me

There is a vast difference between the Ships we call F22P in our fleet and the Type 054 which is perhaps 4x as powerful

Hi,

JF 17 cannot protect it unless a long range version is produced.
Flankers are not the best aircraft for the naval strike missions. The JH7A is still far superior in naval strike missions---with an upgraded EW package targetted towards naval strike missions---.

The JH7A should be procured and kept only as a strike aircraft and NOT as a fighter which it is not and will never be---.

The naval missions will become the most important missions of the future military conflicts---.

For naval strike missions---the appropriate aircraft would be able to carry a minimum of TWO heavy AShM's---that would be the minimum qualification---and for that very reason the Japanese went onwards to design their own aircraft---the F2---.

Otherwise---there was no reason to build a two heavy AShM carrying aircraft---the F16 would have done the job right---.

Some courageous Prime minister / General would have to force a heavy strike aircraft over the air force by a supreme order---.

Agree need deep strike for Ocean Defense however how JH 7 will be provided air defence/cover?

Hi,

The aircraft is not for air defense persay---it is to keep the enemy ships farthest away from pakistani waters---due to its ability to launch AShM from hundreds of miles away.

It is also to give an air strike capability of launching standoff air to ground weapons at targets from different approaches at the enemy coastline infrastructure from over the sea---.

My question was what will protect them even in a stand of mission they will be on their own so maybe they will need fighter escort?

Hi,

Escort---no---for diversion---yes---. This is not 2nd world war mission---. I very much doubt that modern strike mission aircraft have protection from fighter aircraft---but then they might need them---.

3 different ways it can be protected.

1. Pakistans acquisition of long range SAMs like HQ-9 from costs as well as ship borne air defenses.

2. Escorted by JF-17 assigned to PN.

3. The fact that the nose of the JH-7 Is easily large enough to accommodate a large AESA from the likes of J-16. With a powerful radar and its ability to carry SD-10 (AND in the future, PL-15) along with PL-10 (married to a HMS) JH-7A will be able to defend itself to a significant extent.
