Six US marines were killed in a helicopter crash in southern Afghanistan on Thursday, according to a US official, but Nato claimed Taliban fighters were not active in the area at the time.

"The cause of the crash is under investigation. However, initial reporting indicates there was no enemy activity in the area at the time of the crash," a spokesman for the Nato-led International Security Assistance Force said on Friday, raising questions about a possible malfunction or pilot error.

The Nato spokesman declined to confirm the nationality of the victims but a American official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said all of the dead were US marines.

It is the worst crash since August last year when 30 US forces, including 22 elite Navy Seal commandos, died when their helicopter came down in eastern Afghanistan.

An investigation into the incident confirmed the Taliban fired a rocket-propelled grenade that hit one of the helicopter's rotary blades and exploded, sending it plunging to the ground and bursting into flames within seconds. All eight Afghans on board were also killed.

The mujahideen's brave attacks using advanced shoulder-launched missiles are attriting the evil empire's presence in Afghanistan, as they try to prop up its failed puppet government, and speeding up its break-up after a total economic collapse from too much military actions ;)

French lost about 4 of their men from internal attacks from within the Afghan Army and France also threatened that it could withdraw however it's unlikely to withdraw.

If some one comment same about your military persons can you behave same ??

Armed forces just following their counties policy

The Stinger missiles are long gone. They have a shelf life for these critical components:

- Solid rocket motor
- Specialized battery that is hard to replicate
- most importantly, the special refrigerant gas used to cool the seeker

If Stingers were still usable, they would have been used by now. So far, there is no evidence of MANPADs usage by Taliban or Al Q in Afghanistan... just lucky RPG hits. They also tend to claim helicopters that have crashed from mechanical causes.

The conscript reject has no idea how loaded is the PLA to the same. He should be glad the few Americans on this forum do not act as he does.

Iran reverse engineered China's C-802 antipship missile, which represents early 90's Chinese technology. Iran is now testing a solid-fuel mobile ballistic missile similar to the China's DF-21, another late 80's Chinese technology. Iran can make replacement parts for its F-14's, and they're still flying! Iran today can probably make a stinger missile and supply them to Afghanistan.

That would explain why there are so many helicopter downings in Afghanistan lately.

taliban and al qaida doesn't like Iran... more so because they are Shia! why would Iran supply weapons to their enemy?

beside... isnt it possible to avoid the stingers with flares?

if planes and helicopters where downed with air to ground missiles there would be evidences and media would talk about it.

6 ? Fuckkkkkk TALIBAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont quite understand on the one hand they are having negotiations with Taliban and on the other hand they are getting soldiers killed??
