United States curbs on Javelin missile sale cloud Indo-US relationship

Again you did mistake , NAG is carrier(NAMICA) based ATGM but Javelin is man portable ATM.
No there is a point in that.... DRDO is developing man portable based on Nag........

and FCUK the US........

SPIKE all the way... Ditch Javelin...

The FGM-148 Javelin, built by US companies Lockheed Martin and Raytheon, is one of the two anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs) that the Indian Army is evaluating for its 350-odd infantry battalions. The other is the Spike, built by Israeli company, Rafael. These are both shoulder-launched, “fire-and-forget” ATGMs, which means that they autonomously track their targets after they are fired by a two-man crew.

Javelin vs. Spike

Which one is better?

Gr8 news. A slap on the face of import loving brigade in IA.

buddy u r pissing at wrong tree. it has nothing to do with Import vs indigenous debate. and FYI we dont have any indigenous equivalent of javelin or spike .

soln : Spike the :sniper: javelins

This is an absurd stance taken by the USG- a country is willing and able to buy but they are refusing to sell! This is sure to provoke massive outcry amongst US defence companies who now rely on exports as the US cuts back on many projects. C-17 is a typical eg- without Indian orders the production line may have closed as early as next year but now it is to continue employing tens of thousands across America until atleast 2015 and even later if IAF places follow on orders. If India as a result of this ridiculous situation decides to reduce arms purchases from US the Obama administration is in for a world of hurt from the electorate and the opposition- it is utterly absurd when you think about it.

I have no doubt we can expect to see a complete reversal of this decsion soon once it is taken high enough and the ludicrous nature of the descion is realised.

Good on GoI for not bowing to pressure- showing they can't be pushed around and made to submit. Really impressive stance they've taken.

According to TOI (India to order large number of Javelin anti-tank missiles from US - Times Of India) India could buy as much as 60k missile systems of Javelin, I think that's why the US were talking of change in power balance equation in the region since this is huge no.!! What the real reason was behind the deal breaker we may never know as both the US & the GOI are not talking about it. Well we have a trusted friend in Israel maybe we should order there spike missile systems.

by the way javelin is not so good
The main drawback of the complete system (missile, tube, and CLU) is its 49.2 lb (22.3 kg) total weight. The system is designed to be portable by infantry on foot and weighs more than the original specified weight the Army called for.[13]

Another drawback of the system is the reliance on a thermal view to acquire targets. The thermal views are not able to operate until the refrigeration component has cooled the system. The manufacturer estimates 30 seconds until this is complete, but depending on the ambient temperature, this process may take much longer.

Also, Javelin launchers and missiles are rather expensive. A single Javelin command launch unit costs around $125,000, and each missile costs around $40,000.

The system can fire only at targets in line of sight, which casts doubt on its advantages over 2nd generation ATGMs (Metis-M, Kornet) at ranges of more than 1000 meters. At distances up to 600 meters there is a similar problem—rational use of lighter and cheap hand-held rocket launchers, also realizing the principle of "fire and forget".

The operator of the complex has no opportunity to correct the flight of the rocket after launch (when the target heat contrasts poorly with the terrain, the missile can miss).

failed to understand the logic behind this decision.IA was buying 30000-40000 missiles and they agreed to sell 15000-20000???i don't think tech transfer, end user agreement or anything is the reason as if a country can sell 20000 missiles,it can also sell 40000 missiles.funny..

i think we should built a indigenous one(both nag and javelin is top attack missile)..until then,we have a lot of kornet and konkurs...and we should buy this...

Spike missile

but there is little problem.Rheinmetall Defence Electronics is one of the shareholders of this missile.isn't that company blacklisted by India??

Why is India buying Javelins when it has its super dooper Nag?

Why is India buying Javelins when it has its super dooper Nag?

javelin is man portable, when Nag is going to be fired from Nag carrier Namica.heli borne Helina and a man portable version is on way.. :chilli:

Roll on Spike I guess. Interesting though that IA SOFs already have Javelins in limited numbers, will they adopt the Spike as with the rest of the IA or will the carry on with what they've got?

+we're expecting to see Apach deal today, right?

Gr8 news. A slap on the face of import loving brigade in IA.

not exactly. The soul of those are already died or sale. these are cheap guys who dont know what the INDIA (country) means and value.

like the economy country men has also two faces in militery, one died for doing something and second is left nothing to harm it for paper currency.

We are most loosers in the arms imports, yet we not left to change policy;

(1) we have purchased jeeps from the USA or Brittan after second world war, it was found that some were used and some were sold without the engines.
(2) the krasnolpol were purchased the bomb were reached to the target but did not blasted; the russian told that it might be due to Israeli designator, hence russian laser designator were purchased, which were again resulted into the same failure. It is Cristal clear that there was no problem with laser other wise krasnol pol could not reach to the target, problem was in mechenism of blast........ its simple logic question why we do not understand the same. the point is clear Paper currency had make everything. it s god grace that we didnt had war. just thinking if it had war and even soldiars do bravery and reach to near target and fire a bomb but result of its failure would loss their faith and might be they loose courage. this is nothing but a "Passive War" of the world with INDIANS and INDIA.
(3) In miraj 2000 contract with company was with the weapons but later they raise the price india paid the same. where as the one other country(may be UAE) who file a suit at france and win the same.
(4) we purchased "jalaswa" it was found that it is received without any weapon only body of ship had been received.

we have not learnt from the history, after independence pak had dismissed foreign soldiars, where as India had the foreign military generals. what to do with it?

one more thing purchase javeline in less number and then copy the tech, add more spice and make it some spicy dice. thats it.
