Bangladesh minister pushes for liquor tax cut to boost tourism

You seek attention by your contrarian posts all the time. I gave you the benefit of doubt. Thank you for clarifying what you are.
I am not such a weakling to seek attention by dubious means. Better you check the reality of what I say. People here just do not know each other. Who cares if one is liked or disliked but I try to say what is real. Just do not read my posts, please!!

Do not make a personal attack. It shows you are a weakling who is unable to think rationally. Instead of criticizing me why do not you guys criticize the govt authorities responsible for the promotion of tourism? Simply speaking, there is no infrastructure in the country to attract foreign tourists. Do you think, posting loads of high-rise buildings by @Bilal9 will bring in tourists? Stupidity should have its limit.

Errr no..

Tanqueray is a British gin, Like almost all the main Gin brands manufactured in the world, Like Hendriks, Gordens and others.. They're just using an ingredient of a breed of Lime, Native to that Area in the Indian Subcontinent for this particular edition of Tanqueray

One of the most famous Gins in the world is Bombay sapphire, But that doesnt mean it was made in Bombay either.. Gin was first manufactured in the 1700 as an antidote for tropical diseases like Malaria for the British troops stationed in tropical and sub tropical colonies because Gin is drunk mixed with Tonic that has Quinine, The main anti malarial drug in those days

@padamchen @Joe Shearer

On a personal note, nothing to do with your accurate description of Tanqueray's: my uncle was manager of Carew & Co. in Asansol, and lived close to the distillery. His nearest neighbour and good friend was the manager Indian Oxygen (the Indian branch of British Oxygen), who came from a socially very prominent family, and whose two daughters were just in their teens. The elder daughter was inducted into films by Ray, and became a top star, and later married an even more famous and blue-blooded cricketer.

Don't think a liquor tax cut will make any difference to tourism to be frank. If the esteemed minister wants a discount on booze, he should just say it outright.

That said, tourism in BD has plenty of scope, i think even non-resident Bdeshi tourism will bring in millions over the years, as young NRBs rediscover a more developed BD.

Ah - talking about Ayesha Sultana (nee Sharmila), I see. Descended from the Tagore family with roots from East Bengal (now Bangladesh), which is not far from the historic Carew Distillery itself. Per Wiki,

"Tagores are Bengali Brahmins (Kushari) who came from eastern part of Bengal (now in Bangladesh) and settled in the region situated on the right bank of river Hooghly (Rarh) in the 18th century (the first immigrant, Panchanan Kushari, first settled in Gobindapur region around 1720 near what became Fort William, and then after eviction by the British, moved to Jorasanko region south of Sutanuti)."

This is a bit OT for the thread - but appreciate the tidbits about a nice reputed family from East Bengal.

BD has plenty of places where tourism can succeed. The 3 that come to mind is Sundurbans, Cox's Bazaar and Sylhet tea plantations. Government is already working on the first two areas.

BD needs around 10-15 more years of economic growth and the attendant increase in prosperity and infrastructure.
It could easily get a few million tourists in 10-15 years if it just carries on the way it is going now. When you have decent infrastructure that tourists can stay in and move around in then they will come.

It’s the fastest growing 100 million plus, under 3,000,000 sq km, below 10,000 metres elevation country in the world on track to get 1 million tourists before 2050.

You seems to have an unhealthy obsession about my or @Bilal9 's opinion? And propagating bogus theory about tourism development involving us which neither I or Bilal ever claimed. We never claimed, good hotel and elegant buildings are the only thing tourism need. But do you want to deny that good hotel and elegant building do not help tourism? Why you have so much allergy to any good or beautiful thing we post here? Who are actually you? Why you have such a hostility with anything positive about Bangladesh?
Seems you and @Bilal9 know everything about tourism. So, I dare to ask when this 1 million tourist arrival will happen? Before this thing happens, I request you guys to at least clean the Dhaka and its airport and arrange a nice transportation system. Otherwise, your talks will remain just hollow for the next hundred years. Go to the New Market/Balaka area to see what it is now. It is a garbage land with all those nasty installations around Balaka. And it is same wherever you go.

You guys are living in a small self-made fantasy pond and nothing else. Talk something that has already happened or in the process of happening. But you guys talk only of the future for which the garbage country is not even preparing itself. কাজীর বাড়ির গরু খাতায় লিখা আছে, কিন্তু গোয়ালে নাই। Why do I have to accept your fantasy that will not materialize even in the next hundred years? At least, I do not see any such thing happening in the near future.

For now obviously for foreigner Bangladesh is not the top priority for tourism as Bangladesh needs to do development in number of front which Bangladesh has started to do. But 1 thing for sure Bangladesh is witnessing a lot of local tourism and for a country of 160 million it is big.
Yes, local tourism should get priority and not international tourists, at least not for now because the country lacks everything that can attract them. Even the normal eateries are without a toilet facility. We have to accept the reality and should not dream unrealizable things. Bangladesh has almost nothing that can attract foreign tourist in scores.

Even as recently as the 12th to 15th centuries, our Elias Shahi dynasty fought the Moghuls and kept their distinct brand of Muslim culture and tradition in East Bengal.
When you have not read a single line of history you are here to say Iliyas Shahi Dynasty fought the Mughals. What a joke!! There was no Mughal in Delhi at the time of Iliyas Shahi Dynasty.

Bangladesh was never an entity separate from other parts of India except for a brief period of about 200 years during the Turkey/Afghan Muslim period of Bengal. Since around 1539 Bengal (Bangladesh, west Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odissa) came under the Delhi rule by Badshah Sher Shah followed by the Mughals in 1603 CE (approx.).

Your other statements need no answer because they are based on your personal emotion only. In a sense you are twisting facts with your self-made fiction. But, many BD posters do not know history, and since you have also little knowledge about it I request you not to send wrong historical accounts. Also, do not twist history and do not deny the reality that only after 1947 the land consisting of today's BD got a separate identity. Whatever we love to say historically there was no country called East Bengal.

I think, not even a continuous hammering will relieve you from your seige mentality. You need proper education to get over it.

Below is the report on the arrival of tourists in Myanmar. Do not get butt hurt to know that it is already more than 3 million. I wonder why BD is still unable to do the job of attracting even 1 million tourists. This country will fail more when the news of recent bullying activities by BCL Chetona group have been circulated throughout the world. Better you learn from others.

BD is the fastest growing ANY 100 million+ pop country in the world. This growth is just getting quicker every year.

Most mm tourist are short time 24 hours tourist from Thailand. Besides MM culture resembles SE asia culture of prostitution and boozing. Bangladesh can never and should never be like that. The tourist we should be encouraging are the economic and business tourist. As our economy grows and get integrated with the world economy there will be millions of tourist pour into the country like what we see in China or Japan or even in Korea. Thats what we aim for.

You got it wrong clearly and akin to blatant insult toward most of ASEAN countries

Most of South East Asia countries doesnt promote sex tourism, and booze culture. We got a lot of historical heritage, good natural beaches and other wonder, educated open minded and hospitable population along with decent infrastructure and government initiative to promoting tourism. We got the way in tourism because hardwork and good incentive.

Take Vietnam examples, they got historical tourism in booming promoting Vietnam war remnant along with their decent beaches. Even they are capable to attracts millions Chinese and South Korean to visit the country. Meanwhile Malaysia and Indonesia is quite well known for their halal tourism brands among major Muslim countries and still attract millions tourist from many countries. You can see the efforts to put brands and awareness of our tourism industry is at different level compared any South Asia country, even put India in shame.

Take a look for this example, our ministry of tourism spent hundreds millions US dollar for ads campaign around the world

Wonderful indonesia ads in Times Square New York

Put campaign ads in double decker bus in London and Liverpool along with board in Trafalgar Square

We put promotional campaign in Moscwa Russia during World Cup

Malaysian tourism board even make exclusively contract with Discovery chanel, National Geography to promoting their country aboard. Well i not mention Thailand and Singapore because their country brand in tourism sector is at different level.

Is not to mention our efforts to built decent infrastructure at rapid phase to support our industry. Suwarnabhumi airport, KLIA, Soekarno Hatta, changi, Ngurah rai, Kuala Namu, even Ho Chi Minh Airport is at another level compared the best you got.

Meanwhile what Bangladeshi had done in concrete to attract foreign Tourist?
