What's new

How realistic is the possibility of import of crude or wheat from russia?

People here are speaking on top of their lungs that IK got a good deal from russia, however no MOU was ever signed, it's all based on what he said.

Moving forward if we do import crude from russia during deranged international political environment(russia ukraine war), how will if affect our:

Exports to the USA( Major Export partner)
Exports to EU
GSP+ status
SA and UAE response
IMF response
FATF decision

Personally i don't think we can afford to import anything from russia. Heck we can't even import shit from iran who's our neighbour and we want to import stuff from russia which is technically at war with the entire west.

Anyone here who says we should give the middle finger to the US, just look at how our economy is free falling because we are delaying the inevitable IMF program.

Unfortunately overseas pakistani want to reform pakistan through extreme measures via bankruptcy or civil war while they sip Starbucks abroad.
So you are happy to sacrifice freedom for wheat; your PM would be proven right, beggars can't be choosers.

Can someone please also share on how we can refine the ural crude, how much investment that would require and what are the future implications of such a move?

How will it affecf all of our other aspects? Like trade with EU and US?

Or are we willing to jeopardise increase in exports to import cheaper petroleum.
Other than uses of petroleum as a raw material (a feedstock) to make products such as plastics, polyurethane, solvents, and hundreds of other intermediate and end-user goods we should be replacing oil applications with electric cars, solar power, wind and hydro energy.

The thing is what ever they are getting of protecting US interests and selling their country sovereignty and integrity is LOANS not even GRANTS after so much zalalat 😂

The US lobby in the army is the new East India company. These imported dynastic dogs are just their local viceroys.

Anjum is in US finalising surrender of Pakistan.

I know about the LNG deal with Russia. It was signed during the Nawaz Sharif Government in 2015, and the 1100KM long LNG terminal was going to be built between Karachi and Lahore, but due to various reasons, including sanctions on Russian companies and not enough seriousness is shown by the last PTI government, the project is still on paper.

So what is the news then? Russia has been proposing for the last eight or so years, with only progress being made in 2015 when it came close to reality before various setbacks since 2018

It's not discussing the so-called crude oil deal and has no relevance to it

- On May 28, 2021, Russian Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov and Pakistan's ambassador in Moscow Shafqat Ali Khan signed an agreement on behalf of their countries to build the Pakistan Stream gas pipeline

Plenty of reports from Russian state media too.

Ghulam ibn Ghulam.

India is importing oil from Russia and they even import oil from Iran, no one lift eyebrows, our problem is we are too afraid like a subservient slave.
The world is not what it was like 20 years ago, there is a new world order on the horizon, the hegemony of west has been challenged by China and Russia.
If West has problem with Pakistan importing anything from Russia they should engage with Pakistan with respect rather than dictate us like we are their slaves. US just removed IK instead of having talks on equal level, this shows the amount of control US has over Pakistan.
We are treated as slaves because people dealing with west on our behalf ARE their salves.

Hi,

Which LNG deal was signed with Russia in 2015 during Pmln tenure, can you kindly elaborate?

The 1100km one, is the North - South pipeline, not an LNG terminal. There's a thread on North-South pipeline (PakStream) in the forum, please go through it. I and others have tried to keep it updated with the progress made during PTI tenure.

Hammad Azhar has shared a copy of the official letter sent to Russians on March 30, 2022, showing Pakistan's keenness to import Russian Oil/ Gas. Please go through his twitter posts on the subject.

The North-South Gas pipeline was supposed to be funded and built by Russia? No?

To cut things short, my point is we can not replace Russia with Europe and US unless we have a trade of such magnitude with Russia. Pakistan does not even have 1% of trade with Russia, and the Russians will not buy 15-20billion USD of exports from Pakistan to replace the west. Until we have various avenues of cooperation, it does not make sense to make our friendly nations our foes to get discount from non-existent, never-heaed, unofficial LNG deal

I am afraid IK may make it a matter of pride instead of negotiating it tactfully.

Exactly, a pipeline not a terminal to transport RLNG. Pmln never signed an Lng purchase deal with Russians.

Long term agreements do not happen overnight, they take time. If their were no negotiations, and Hammad Azhar is lying and has pulled that letter out of his rear, the incumbent government should take him to courts. Instead we have a Russian researcher tagging our energy minister on twitter and fact checking his claims.

With the new government? I don't know. With Imran Khan back? It's very realistic.

With wars and global food shortages, goodluck getting anything from anywhere

Most countries are stopping wheat/food exports while our country fights over PMships…..these dumbos are busy fighting while other countries are stocking up

Bhooki nangi awam, shall remain, even if IK wins something

Your elite money and children are all parked outside Pakistan....and those elite are sitting on a key post or decision-taking post.

The boat has been missed plus IFIs will not be very keen to endorse since a much more expensive PL480 exists.
