What's new

I need a new Flat-screen T.V. Which brand should I buy? I was thinking Chinese brand Hisense

Toshiba/Panasonic/Philips are Brands bought by chinese companies as these respective companies got out of TV making. these brands are now just rebranded Chinese TV sets.

Sony/LG/Samsung are the only brands to trust for quality and reliability.

China is not Pakistan's thekedar, only Pakistan can improve Pakistan's economy. Stop expecting others to clean your mess.

I don't know where the hell you get your information from. If Toshiba is so damn good, why isn't it among the top 10 best-selling TV brands? Their global market share isn't even 2% whereas LG is the second best selling TV brand after Samsung.

But China can help. In Poverty reduction schemes, economic development, and their central planning methods.

We should adopt one party state system like China has done.

I got my source from Google search. Toshiba was on the list.

Sony has the best image quality for OLED TV. I can recommend the A95K
But Panasonic is the best overally, also, the hardest to buy for some reasons. Will come with a heatsink to eliminate burn-in and increase performance.

I'm still waiting for the Panasonic LZ2000 to be released.

This is disinformation.
All of the companies listed have most of their manufacturing done in China, or Vietnam or Malaysia/Indonesia.
But the OLED screens are usually made by either Samsung/LG, and the image processor is in-house (Sony), and of course other doodas.

The OLED screen is still far-away from Chinese brands (Hisense, TCL) for now, but I think they will catch up later on.

Get a variable refresh rate TV that is compatible with the PS5.

Don't have hands on experience with a console but I can tell you it makes a pretty big difference and games are so much smoother.

60 Hz is so 2010s for gaming on.

I find it pretty weird that mainstream TVs and consoles can't do display port connection.
But oh well, HDMI 2.1 is OK.

It all comes to your budget and what you are looking for!!

Sony have the best colour science - and a quantum dot OLED is the ABSOLUTE best on the market ( https://www.techradar.com/reviews/sony-a95k-qd-oled-tv )

Sony minileds are the best when combined with Dolby Vision support.

Samsung donot support Dolby Vision(boo!!) and they tend to oversaturate their images thinking brightness == good image quality.

The best cost/value/image quality is LG OLEDs A1 series (eg https://www.lg.com/uk/tvs/lg-oled55a16la ) ( but Sony's OLED implemenations are better ).

I would advoid Hisense - i have tried (ie bought) Hisense on number of occassions and i have returned them or they have failed - the colour science is crap - Hisense use low quality image processors meaning that fast moving images tend to artifact and stutter to quickly - their motion handling sucks. And, you also play screen lottery if you get a good screen or not (ie banding effects on their screens or dead pixels).

Hisense are cheap - if you want a TV for the toilet - sure - go for it .. but for true film watching and image quality - it is still Sony-> LG -> Samsung in order of colour science, image quality ....

( i am gonna ignore all the BS on this thread .. )
Hisense is good if you are short of money but you want Premium, they are using the same tech Samsung and LG used 2 or 3 generation thru OEM equipment (The Chinese company that make those TV for Samsung and LG sold their tooling and prodcut to HIsense and Hisense rebrand them to their own product) There are virutally have no different between a 2022 HIsense and a 2020 Samsung Series 6 or LG whatever 2020 TV.

But if you want quality and you can pay for it, go Samsung Series 8 or LG or Sony.

That's the incorrect method. If you struggle to understand the technological differences between two TVs then you should look at the 2019-2021 market share of the brands selling them. Toshiba is as good as dead in the TV market. First of all, you need to identify what kind of TV you want, do you want an LED, OLED or QLED? If you want to buy a Chinese brand so badly then go for TCL but make sure that you buy their expensive TVs, the cheap ones are not good.

Market share isn't an indicator of quality my man.
I myself have bad experiences with LG monitors, and Samsung is not considered so good quality here (despite the fact we have so many of their factories).
But I haven't had an experience with Toshiba TVs myself, I think they have a REZGA line that is now pretty popular in Japon.

When premium brands dominate the market then market share is an excellent indicator to go by if one lacks the technical knowledge to determine which TV would be most suitable for him/her. Samsung, LG and Sony are the only premium brands in the TV market and they dominate the market, so going with any of them is never a wrong decision.

Can you kindly explain why you don't like the quality of Samsung's and LG's TVs?

Samsung: the image processing and brightness isn't as good as Sony's, very noticeably:

LG: I used their monitor, LG 27GL850-B with Nano IPS, which is over-bright and gives me eye straints in long session. Half a year in, I switch to using a Gigabyte monitor and don't have this problem anymore.

I was thinking of getting a 55 inch tv.
Buy as big as you can afford. The ideal watching distances have reduced due to increase in the picture quality and ppi density.

4K TVs have very close recommended watching distance.

OLED ones have best picture quality.

I have a 65” LG OLED for last four years. Amazing picture quality. I want to upgrade to a bigger OLED, preferably 85” one. But they aren’t yet available in India. Biggest size OLED is 77” and that too is so expensive that I might have to trade one kidney for that.

I would recommend going for 85” micro-LED TV if it’s available or a 65” OLED.
@Ali_Baba has analysed these aspect pretty well in his posts.

I think anything over 65 inch is an overkill, plus wife probably ask for a divorce if I buy anything over 65 inch.

But as they say, TV is like manhood, the bigger the better.....
