Interesting Interview with Mr. Murthy
NDTV

I'm curious how pdf members would see his comments.

He speaks on a variety of the current issues we face.

Forget PDF members, am curious how Congressis will see his comment. Prolly in the same light they saw Lata Mangeshkar's comment:lol:
lol, unfortunately I haven't found a transcript of the interview. see if you can post it mate.
some may not have time to watch the whole thing.

Cannot agree with Narayan Murthy Sir on this one.
If economic progress alone is the yardstick for measuring a Leader's standing, then Hitler and Churchill would see their positions getting reversed! But that's not how leaders are judged.

This is perhaps the first General Election in India where neither the Incumbent Govt coalition nor the Opposition coalition have fielded a worthy candidate for PMship(assuming RaGa will be pitted against NaMo).

Ah....Goodwin's Law again. The last resort of the incompetent.

How lucky we are to have you to issue "certificate of worthiness" to all PM candidates.

What's so bad with Goodwin's Law making it's appearance? After all, characters like Churchill, Mao, Stalin & Hitler are the archetypes for 'Strong' Leaders the World over.

Congress isn't that stupid.

Godwin's law, not goodwin's.

They'll do exactly that if they think we're stupid enough to vote him into power...

But they know that we aren't. Mark my words, either they will refrain from announcing a prime ministerial candidate, or more likely they will field some very respected technocrat or business leader. They simply cannot afford to make it NaMo v/s RG, because then a potential defeat would be converted into a potential bloodbath.

There were rumors recenty that Nandan Nilekani might be their choice. They will make a move like that to put a modicum of competition to Modi's image, rather than put up a greenhorn like RG. Even people who are not Modi fans will feel compelled to vote for the BJP, if they see RG as the congress candidate for PM, because he has not even held an important ministerial post at central or state level to date.

Remember how Sonia played a political masterstroke in 2004, by making MMS the PM even though she had the mandate? That gambit easily won them allies, who may not have been too keen on an alliance with SG at the helm. Similarly they will find a figurehead respected by everyone, instead of RG whom only fawning congressis pretend to respect so that they don't lose their jobs.

"..... there is a tradition in many newsgroups and other Internet discussion forums that once such a comparison is made, the thread is finished and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically lost whatever debate was in progress."

You lost that argument before you could finish it by invoking Godwin's law.

So your logic is if congress makes Nandan Nilekani as the PM candidate, people should vote for the congress ? :cheesy:

I'm more interested in putting my point across than worry about the technicalities of 'losing' a debate. As long as the average reader got the gist of what I wanted to express, it's good enough for me. You may collect all the trophies that PDF has lined up for 'winning' arguments here.

No.
..................

Well thank you. I am sure people do not want a repeat of Manmohan 2.0

Indian public is smarter than that. It would not matter if they put up Montek singh ahluwalia or Pappu as PM candidate.

The only point point that gets across by invoking Godwin's law is that you have NO sound rational reason for opposing Modi except pseudo secularism.

The problem this time around is that vacillation of Congress has resulted in everyone assuming that the probable PM candidate is going to be RaGa. Their plan may have been to keep this going till the Assembly Elections we just had, just to gauge his popularity. I guess only now is the Congress fully prepared to accept that RaGa is a lost cause as a mast-head for them.

Nobody fielded by the Congress/UPA can match the momentum built by NaMo going into the elections. While Nandan Nilekani is a respected person, he's as raw as they come in Politics and everyone can see him becoming another puppet like MMS. No other leader of repute may actually risk it against NaMo this time around.
