'This is only a one-time arrangement'

Bangladesh has decided to send 500 tons of Ilish to India for the upcoming Durga Puja.

“India is a friendly neighbour of Bangladesh and we have a long history of friendship since the Liberation War. As Durga puja comes near, Bangladesh has decided to send 500 tons of Ilish to India as a goodwill gesture,” Commerce Secretary Dr Jafar Uddin told Dhaka Tribune.

He also said the price of the silver fishes, which are being sent, will be determined by an agreement between the buyers and sellers.

“This is only a one-time arrangement,” the commerce secretary added.

Ilish production in Bangladesh has doubled in a decade, thanks to the government's efforts, including its ban on catching brood fish, and fries.

According to government data, production of the silver fish stood at 517,000 tons in 2017-18, up from 279,189 tons in 2006-07. In 2014-2015 the production was 387,211 tons.

Better to donate the fish to Muslims who are hungry out in Syria or the Rohyngia refugees

Bangladeshis have cultural relation with Indians, not with Syrians or Rohingyas. Also they don't eat fish much.

We are secular type Muslims. Dhaka is named after Devi Durga's ancient avatar Devi Dhakeshwari. Although we don't observe Durga Puja due to religious restriction but Durga Puja is biggest festival of Bengali Hindus of Bangladesh and India. So we give our token of friendship during this festive time.

You are honestly the most Hindu Muslim I have ever come across.

Durga don't need fish , refugees need fish

Hilsa is an important menu during Durga Puja like Semai during Eid. We have no relation with Syrians. You better donate something as they are from your part of the world. Although we have sympathy for Rohingyas but most of them are disliked immensely by Bangladeshis. They are big burden on our country. They also don't eat fish much.

This is Puja thali or Puja dish during Durga Puja. So as a token of friendship we offered Indians hilsa fish as Bangladeshi Hilsa is world famous.

Ever tried Hilsa? It will be really difficult for others than a bengali

Its not free. You have massive production this year.
Selling to a near place one time will let you earn good amount dollar.
Economically it makes a lot of sense to me.

Does anyone understand this crazy philosophy?
On one hand they say their Gods tells them to kill humans over meat.
On the other hand they are killing thousands of animals for their Gods.

That's the problem when when you follow the philosophy of cavemen.

:)

Even Bangladeshi Hindus don't feel this type of kinship with Indians, Bong or not...

Goodwill gestures are two-way street brother. So far your govt. has not shown any reciprocity in this area.

Stop trying to make sense of it, even Indians don't.

We send hilsha to India and they send dead bodies back to us.

BSF hands over Bangladeshi’s body

Body of a Bangladeshi man, killed on September 3 by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) in bordering area of Lalmonirhat’s Patgram upazila, was handed over to Bangladesh authorities on Tuesday night.

Bablu Mia, 25, son of Nur Mohammad of Kaliganj village in Nilphamari’s Dimla upazila, was a cattle herder.

Lt Col Isahaq Mondol, commander of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) 51 battalion, Dimla Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mofizuddin Sheikh and Poshchhim Satnai Union Parishad Chairman Abdul Latif Khan were present during the handover of the body on Patgram border.

Soon after OC Mofizuddin Sheikh handed over the body to his family in Kaliganj village, he was buried at a local graveyard around 10:00am yesterday morning.

On September 3, Bablu was killed and another Bangladeshi, Saiful Islam, injured as BSF fired gunshots while the two were collecting grass for their cattle near the border, alleged their families.

BSF, however, claimed that the two were cattle smugglers and BSF opened fire on them while they were transporting cattle on the Indian territory.

Soon after the firing, BSF detained Saiful and took away Bablu’s body.

Injured Saiful is still being detained by the BSF.
